Being healthy isn’t something you do every once in awhile and it certainly cannot be something you stop doing once you look more in shape and feel a bit better.
If you want to be in and maintain optimal health, then you need to make sure you’re taking steps each day to make that happen on a consistent basis. Basically forever.
No one is telling you to go run miles each day or eat only raw foods and cut out any grain or sugar but getting healthy can be a lot more fun! Here are 10 manageable things to focus on first:
Try Meditation
Don’t knock meditation until you’ve tried it! Meditation will help to clear your mind. It can provide you greater mental focus, help unlock creativity, and help you to feel happier in your day to day life.
In most business books I read written by some of the most high-performing CEOs, a massive shift happened when they began meditating to quiet their mind and found a deeper focus. Even if you can only commit 15 minutes to this practice each day, you’ll benefit. Try it and you’ll see, I love the Meditation Experience App by Deepak Chopra (and backed by Oprah!)
Focus on Incorporating Healthful Options
Include fruits and vegetables with each meal (and snack if possible) to make sure you’re getting enough vitamins and minerals.
Explore new ways to incorporate them whether in smoothies, juicing or otherwise while keeping tabs on how much sugar you’re actually ingesting.
Start Moving Those Bones
You don’t need to be drastic and sign yourself up for a half marathon, but a little exercise will do you miles (hehe) of good.
Even if you’re just walking a moderate amount to begin with, it’ll help to get your blood pumping and contribute to a healthier body.
Work on Hygiene
Having good personal hygiene is key to staying as healthy as possible. Though it may seem like basic knowledge but having regular showers, washing hands, brushing teeth, and things like that will all contribute to your overall health.
During the winter months, people may get a bit laxed and if you’re not taking care regularly as you should, you could be transferring dirt and bacteria, for example. You should also work on the cleanliness of your home, as that can affect health too.
Drink All of the Water Every Day
Drinking water is one of the best things you can possibly do for your health. Whatever your health ailments might be, from a pesky headache or a urinary tract infection, drinking water can help.

Stay Away from Junk Food
Stay away from over-processed, salty and sugary snacks/foods as much you can. To be clear this is not a prescriptive “Never again” tip.
Telling yourself you’re never eating anything ever again may lead to you gorging on it down the line. Instead, allow yourself a small treat if you really want one.
For example, a small slice of cake on somebody’s birthday. A small cookie with your tea when you visiting a friend’s home. Just don’t overdo it and make sure you balance it out with good choices.
See Friends and Family
Face to face contact is important for our mental health. People tend to neglect the mental health side of things, but it’s equally as important!
Relax
Take some time to have a hot bath, or just lie back and do nothing for a little while. Don’t burn yourself out and the occasional nap is good for the soul.
Have a Laugh
Feeling down? Watch a funny film, or speak to a funny friend. Laughter really can be the best medicine and just as your friend may cheer you up, focus on doing the same for others. Often times uplifting those around us has a massive benefit to our own psyche.
Enjoy the Outdoors
Do you get outside enough? Sunlight and fresh air are essential for our health and well being. Enjoy the outdoors more and you’ll notice the benefits!
Work towards a healthier life each day and enjoy the journey.
