In the modern world, it often feels as though you’re constantly caught up in the rush of things. It can make it seem as though you have absolutely no time to do anything beyond the ever growing to do list in front of you (both personal and professional!)
You go from the school run to work, back to school, then home to cook dinner, put the kids to bed, tidy the house and before you know it you’ve collapsed on your bed ready to do it all again tomorrow.
Now, for a lot of people, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this, but doing it every single day can get a little draining. Even if getting your kids to school is incredibly simple and you go to a job that you love every day, having to constantly run around all of the time can be pretty stressful.
Because of that, you owe it to yourself to take some time away from all of that rush and to simply relax for a while. Here are a few ideas for how you can set aside that all important “me time” to just slow down for a while.
Practice Intentional Self-Care
Just taking time away from the stress of work and family isn’t always going to be enough to get rid of all of that stress that can build up over time.
So why not take the opportunity to pamper yourself for a while and really enjoy the time that you’re spending alone. Run yourself a bath, check out this post on the best ways to use essential oils, and just let all of your troubles float away.
Add some gentle music and a glass of wine, and you’ve got the makings of a pretty perfect evening!
Work to Delegate Where You Can
It’s important to remember that you and your partner are a team, and sometimes that means making life just a little bit easier for each other.
If you’re feeling stressed out and you need some time to yourself for a while, then there’s nothing wrong with asking your partner to take the kids out for the day so that you can be alone for a while. Not only do you get to relax but the kids get to go out and do something fun for the day too!
Take turns when it comes to cleaning, cooking, or other household tasks. There’s no reason you should feel all tasks rest on your shoulders.
Just keep in mind that it’s not just a one-way street. If your partner does it for you, then you should always be willing to do it for them.
Indulge in a Treat
Remember that taking a little bit of R&R doesn’t just need to involve you lying in bed and taking a nap! Doing something fun can be just as good at recharging your batteries as anything.
Why not go shopping and enjoy a bit of retail therapy, meet a friend you haven’t seen in a while for lunch or some drinks. Do something just for yourself completely guilt free.
After all, you spent the majority of your time working hard so that your family can have everything that they need, haven’t you earned the right to be a little bit self-indulgent just this once?
