There’s certainly an art to finding your beauty and fashion uniforms. Over the years many of us have worked to perfect our routines and our closets to find the almost perfect balance of trend and polish.
Below are a few of my favorite tips:
Do the Dew But Lose the Shine
There’s a fine line between sporting a glow and looking just plain greasy. It takes a good amount of time, discipline, and money to achieve flawless skin. Once you find the products that work best for your skin type, opt for a foundation with micronized powders (like in Nars sheer matte foundation) that control oil production and leave skin matte but not dry-looking.
Use a highlighter on a select few areas to maintain a healthy glow but the end result is neither too dewy nor overly powdered.
Never be Over or Underdressed
Sounds…hard am I right? It’s not! The key to always being dressed for the occasion is to mix more casual pieces with smarter ones. A more relaxed pair of trousers with a silk skirt or ladylike heels with tailored jeans.
Maintaining this mix will ensure your comfort in any situation the day throws at you.
Get Back to Basics
Appearing polished doesn’t necessarily mean wearing the most expensive clothes. A mix of the high, low, and in between (or any variation of the three) can still achieve the look you aspire to.
Invest in your basics; classic and versatile shirts, coats, and shoes that match with most of the other pieces in your closet. When you can afford it, tailor the pieces you wear most often.
Be sure to take care of your clothes and that they’re properly pressed or steamed before heading out the door. A few wrinkles may seem like nothing, but a well-pressed shirt can help you head into that next meeting with a bit of extra confidence.
What is your go-to tip for looking more polished on a daily basis?
