A lot of us suffer from low moods from time to time, which really doesn’t help our health – and a lot of us are doing things that aren’t helping us get to a better state of mind.
Here are some of the things you need to reconsider your approach to:
Negative Nancy and Debbie Dans
People might tell you never to hang around negative people; you should just cut those cynics and misers out of your life they say.
But let’s face it: sometimes those people can give us a brutally honest way of looking at things, and sometimes they’re just really darn funny, even if they’re being dark about it.
Hanging around people who only ever see the bright side is its own sort of problems!
There’s a difference between negative people and genuinely mean people.
The latter should probably be avoided, but the former can be handled if you don’t let them have too much control or influence over the way you live and think.
An Excess of Harmful Substances
There’s a difference between occasionally indulging in a large glass of wine to lift your spirits and doing something so often that you’re causing tremendous long-term damage to yourself.
Sometimes, going out for a drink can help you relax, and that booze can help enhance that feeling of giddiness that makes hanging out with friends so enjoyable.
Of course, take it too far and you get a hangover, and do it too often and you get addicted. Both of those scenarios really sink your mood!
Then there are substances that provide basically no benefit whatsoever, temporary or otherwise; those cigarettes certainly won’t help with your mood. It inhibits your ability to get good exercise and sinks your concentration.

Lack of scheduling
Some days, you get up when your alarm goes off. Other days, you just want to sleep in a bit.
On your days off, you basically just do whatever you feel like doing at the time.
But routine is something that can help you improve your mood simply because it prevent you from getting into the nothing-to-do mindset that so often leads to negative thinking.
Psychology experts know the importance of having a routine. But how do you actually build a routine if you don’t really have any tasks you feel you need to complete?
Well, this is why you should aim to have tasks. Get up, do some exercise, read a book, learn a new skill, see friends; all of this can be built into a routine.
The News
If you’ve got something you want to achieve on a particular day, or you know that you need to keep your spirits up for some other reason, then it may be best to avoid the news.
The Internet is great for many things, but it also makes it more likely that you’re going to see some fairly disturbing and depressing stories with more frequency.
If you do check the news, think twice before delving into further detail or satisfying morbid curiosity.
