Coming home to find your house has been burgled is a nightmare situation and has happened to far too many of my friends. The loss of expensive and personal items can be very disheartening. Not only that but after something so invasive like that occurs, you may not feel safe in your own home anymore.
To help prevent a burglary, you need to ensure your property is properly secure. Not only will this prevent against trespassers, but you will also feel much more safe. So, how do you effectively secure your home? Below are a few tips.
CCTV
Keep an eye on your property with CCTV cameras. These can be installed on your exterior walls for a rather low price these days. Burglars are often put off from entering a property if they notice cameras. However, if they still do, you will be able to catch them on the CCTV.
The film can then be used as evidence in court. One of the best things about CCTV is that there are many well-developed systems that can connect to your phone. You can then watch what is going on around your home while you are out and about.
Don’t Hide A Key
Most of us will hide a spare key outside our home in case a member of our family ever gets locked out. You know the usual places: under the doormat, under a flowerpot, inside the mailbox. Well, burglars are starting to wise up to this trick, and they know all the usual places too.
So don’t give them a hand getting inside your home. Instead of hiding a key, give it to your neighbors or a nearby friend or relative.
Install Electric Gates
You will probably have a wall or fence around your property. If not, you should think about erecting one now. Another thing you need is automatic driveway gates. These large gates will be difficult for an intruder to climb over. Not only that, but you can control them from the comfort of your own home. If a friend is coming to visit, you can open them from indoors.
They can also detect when you are driving towards them, so you don’t have to get out of your car to open them. These types of gates don’t have to make your house look like a prison; these days you can buy them in really elegant styles to match your home decor.
Install Light Timers
Burglars are less likely to intrude if they think someone is home. One way they can tell if anyone is in, is by checking to see if lights are on inside. If they are on, it is likely there is someone inside. So, to fool any prowling burglars, invest in light timers.
You can then set them to turn your lights on at specific times of the day. Set them for when you are out in the evenings, so burglars will be wary about entering your home!
These four tips can help you secure your home and protect you and your family against burglars. There are also many other tricks you can implement but be sure to share what other tactics you use to deter burglars.
