Health check-ups can often be a bit uncomfortable, and something that we easily push to the back of our minds as adults.
However it is vital that you regularly schedule and attend your appointments. Any issues canl be discovered earlier, with a higher chance of effective treatment before they progress any further.
It’s time to stop burying your head in the sand, and make those appointments (we aren’t as young and invincible as we think!)
Eyesight
While deteriorating eyesight is normally associated with the next generations and growing old older, there is actually a vast amount of younger people suffering from eye problems.
Regular check-ups may detect any developing health problems. While laser eye surgery is available if you do develop the need for eyeglasses, check lasik reviews for the right option for you and your part.
Cervical Screenings
The health appointment most women dread and put off for as long as possible. This screening is on your should really be cognizant of when you reach the age of 26.
It’s a quick and easy procedure that detects cancer and checks the health of the cells found in your cervix.
Any abnormal cells found can be investigated further, treated, and hopefully prevented from turning cancerous.
Early detection and treatment can prevent a number of cervical cancers so keep that in mind when you’re thinking about cancelling or how inconvenient that trip to the doctors is.
The procedure really isn’t as traumatic as you may imagine, and while slightly uncomfortable and awkward, it is over in seconds.
Dental work
Many people fear the dentists (I am sadly one of those people after a bad experience with an orthodontist as a child), with their sterile rooms and unnerving equipment.
But dental care is something we must be aware throughout life. You only get one set of teeth (after losing your baby ones of course), so taking care of these is imperative.
Check-ups every six months is advised, with a deep cleaning to ensure your pearly whites are thoroughly cleaned and x rays to see what’s going on beneath the surface.
If you encounter any problems or unusual pains, make an appointment as soon as possible and do not wait for your next scheduled check up.
Cholesterol and blood pressure
As we age, cholesterol and blood pressure checks become increasingly important due to changes in our bodies, diet and external stressors (like our work) which may affect either one.
This is also a chance to check your circulatory and vascular health, by undergoing blood pressure, cholesterol and BMI tests.
Finding and working to correct problems found can add years onto your life, as a healthier lifestyle will reduce the risks of diabetes, strokes and heart disease later on in life.
Hearing tests
The health of your hearing can sometimes be neglected and forgotten about. But a world of silence is a possibility for those who fail to attend check-ups and appointments.
Adults consistently using earbuds at higher volumes and working in loud places are at risk of developing tinnitus.
Children are at risk of problems after ear infections. We truly may not even be aware of any problems until it is too late, so get yourself checked over by an expert just to be sure.
Has this urged you to make or keep your next appointment? I hope so (and have a wonderful weekend!)
