Keeping our mouths healthy is so important. You can usually tell how healthy a person is from their smile.
If you’d like to find natural ways to keep your mouth healthy, I always suggest chatting with your dentist to get recommendations on what is best for you.
Thereafter, check out tips elsewhere like those provided below:
Coconut Oil Pulling
Coconut oil pulling is a natural method of keeping the mouth healthy. Although it has gained popularity in the last year or so, it’s been around a great deal longer.
Not only does this method help clean and whiten your teeth, it’s also great for your overall oral health. You’ve probably heard that coconut oil is great for the skin and body (I use it religiously on my scalp.)
To dip your toe in oil pulling, take a spoonful of oil into your mouth.
Swish it around a bit until it’s melted. The hard part is doing this for 15 to 20 minutes until the oil has had a chance to get into all of the crevices of your mouth. Once you spit the oil out, your mouth should feel much cleaner.
You may even notice brighter teeth straight away. If you don’t, keep up this routine for as long as you need to so you notice a difference.
You can actually buy little sachets of coconut oil especially made for this. The smaller packets also come in flavors too, like mint and lemon.
Charcoal
Charcoal may sound a bit odd, but it’s another one of the newest trends for teeth whitening and oral health.
You can buy toothpaste with it in there already, or mix it in yourself. Some people even choose to use it alone.
The great thing about charcoal is that it doesn’t ruin your enamel, and though you may question putting a dark substance on your teeth with a whitening result, it works. Especially with consistent use.
Healthy Food And Drink
It goes without saying that fresh fruits and vegetables food along with drinking lots of water helps keep the mouth healthy. While the vitamins and nutrients help your body on a whole, the water works to flush out toxins and clear out your mouth a bit after meals.
Making sure you’re including nuts and healthy nuts is just as important.
The antioxidants in green tea can be a great alternative for those in need of a caffeine boost. Just bear in mind that even healthy food can stain your teeth.
Keep foods that can stain to a minimum for the whitest teeth. Two foods that are thought to be especially good for teeth include celery and soy. Celery is considered to be almost like a natural floss, while soy promotes gum health.
Supplements And Vitamins
You can also take supplements and vitamins that can help to keep your teeth strong and mouth healthy.
Vitamin C is said to be one of the best out there for this.
Get into a good routine with your supplements, as you need to be consistent to notice results.
For instance you could take them all together in the morning after breakfast. It’s usually best to take them when you’ve eaten, so don’t take them on an empty stomach. You might feel sick or get other adverse side effects.
Before you spend a lot of money on certain supplements, make sure you chat with your physician to ensure you will benefit from them first.
Regular Dentist Visits
Although there are many natural treatments that can keep your mouth healthy, you should never put off dentist visits. It can be all too easy to do this, but you do so at your own risk.
The longer you put the trip off, the more money it could cost you for dental work in the long run (not to mention pain!) Choosing a dentist that you like and helps you to feel at ease should stop you from dreading the visit.
Make a note on your calendar so you genuinely do not forget when you’re due to visit. Even though you may think your teeth are fine, a dentist will be able to spot problems before you do.
Although we would rather be doing better things with our time, you must think of your health!
Keeping our mouths healthy is so important. In many cases, it’s simply a case of getting into healthy habits we can stick to. When your mouth feels clean and looks bright, you won’t want to stop!
