Some renovations are not that visible, and while they may improve your life in a variety of ways, they aren’t that impressive to see.
If you’re looking for some ideas on how to fix-up your house in a way that provides the most bang for your buck, not all projects give the same satisfaction.
Keep reading to learn more about renovations that will really make a visual impact.
New Appliances
Nothing will age your home more than a kitchen filled with old appliances. Unless you have perfected the antique or vintage look, a kitchen that still has avocado or harvest gold appliances just looks old.
You don’t necessarily have to go for top-of-the-line equipment, just keep it fresh with a standard white or black finish. Stainless steel is also very nice but it may not fit into everyone’s budget.
You may have to do some construction to change the counters or cabinets around to fit appliances that aren’t the same size as the old ones, or even do a little plumbing to move things around (a fridge with an ice-maker will need a water source, for example).
So, that’s why we’re considering appliances to be a renovation rather than just a purchase.
New Exterior Siding
This is like giving your home a complete make-over, changing the entire look of the house from the outside.
You can keep it simple and leave the siding as it is, and just give it a new look with a paint job.
Going from light to dark (or vice versa) is a very dramatic change with only a little investment.
On the other hand, you can replace the cladding altogether and go with a more modern look on the exterior. Stone or wood are two classic options that will stand the test of time.
Update the Flooring
Styles change and maybe what you have underfoot needs some updating too.
These days, carpeting is not as popular as it once was so you may want to replace any broadloom with your choice of tile, laminate or real hardwood flooring.
It’s not as hard as you might think, and with click-together laminate flooring products, you can even refloor an entire room in a single weekend as a DIY project.
No matter which flooring style you choose, this renovation will give any room a new sleek modern look.
Removing Old Wallpaper
Changing wall coloring is one way to update the look of a room, but it is an even more dramatic change if you are replacing wallpaper with paint. Old wallpaper tends to be very bold, strongly designed and can detract from any furnishings or decor in the room.
Strip it down and give the walls a new life with either a subtle neutral or a bolder color in paint.
Adding a Deck
Depending on the size of your property, a nice wooden deck can look fantastic. Keep it rustic or add some modern flair to the design, either way you can have a gorgeous new look outside.
Not only can a deck be decorative, it will provide comfortable seating areas for enjoying the yard or doing a little outdoor entertaining.
