Although just sitting and relaxing is an absolute dream for most of us, many of us find it incredibly difficult to switch off.
There always seems to be something that needs to be done immediately. Or there is always a looming thought of what needs to be achieved tomorrow.
Our lives are always going to be full of responsibilities and things that we need to do. But this doesn’t mean that we should spend our time feeling stressed about each and every one of them.
Find out what helps you relax and try and do it as much as possible. You’ll wonder how you ever survived before without your designated relaxation time.
Upgrade Your Bathroom
Replace some of your older bath products with new high-quality items.
It will make it that much harder to resist running a hot bath and pouring in some of your new deliciously scented bubble bath. This along with a few self-care treatments like a therapeutic body salt scrub, will help you unwind at the end of a long day or week.
Purchase a Few Candles
Purchase some new scented candles for your home to light as often as possible.
Make sure you go for known relaxing scents, like jasmine and lavender, which will fill your home.
Without you knowing, the scents will relax your body and mind and help you to feel more at peace.
Invest in Meditation Supplies
It’s a little-known fact that the practice of meditation comes with a whole host of accessories. Do things properly by getting yourself some new meditation gear. Find a comfortable cushion to sit on or Mala meditation beads.
Even if you can’t meditate properly yet, spending some time sitting quietly will help clear your mind from the stressors of the day.
Think about purchasing a meditation app to guide you in your initial steps.
If you really can’t let go, dedicate some time each day to actively think about whatever is worrying you.
After this time is up, be very strict with yourself and try not to let these worries creep into your mind all day.
Walk Then Run to Relaxation
Running and walking are great for the mind. You get a clear head-space and genuinely come back with a new perspective on things sometimes. If you are desperately trying to get into running, this is an easy way to trick yourself into going for a run.
Do things step by step: I typically lay all of my gym clothes out the night before. While my coffee is brewing I get my gear on and pop in my contacts. I enjoy my first few sips of coffee while listening to a high energy song and stretch out a bit.
Before you know it, your pace will pick up into a power walk and maybe even a light jog (if you’re not already a runner that is.) This does wonder for energizing the mind and body, and helping you release pent up stress.
Treat Yo’ Self to Yoga
You can get plain yoga mats, or you can get something a bit more fancy. Go on, splurge on a beautifully patterned yoga mat from your favorite brand.
You won’t want to leave your new mat just sat in the corner miserably, so you may be more likely to use it.
Whether you take the mat out for a whirl to yoga classes or prefer practicing at home, this will help you to spend some quality time relaxing.
