Happy Wednesday everyone, I am currently in NYC hobnobbing with some of the greatest minds in digital marketing and tech!
Having jetted about a fair amount for work, below is a list of tips and tricks I have gathered along the way for business travel:
- Versatile separates. I always bring pieces that can be intermixed to keep prep time in the morning short. The least amount of thought spent putting together an outfit prior to a busy day, the better as more time can be spent forming thoughtful yet beneficial connections. I opt for darker colors in most cases.
- Noise-cancelling headphone/earbuds. Whether you’ll be returning on a red-eye or taking the train, there will be moments you just need to escape the sounds around you. Use these moment to reflect and recharge in between meetings or before bed. Sol Republic has been my trusted go-to as most of their options are now bluetooth (so convenient!)
- A Master Plan. A folder or binder that contains all of your travel information, meeting/session details, receipts to be expensed, conference badge, agendas and more.
- All of the Juice. You’re going to be networking and most likely in sessions for long stretches at a time. Dispel any battery related worries by having your own portable chargers and be sure everything is fully recharged each night. My favorite is by PowerNow as you can get 4 full mobile charges out of it.
- Self care. Just because you’re on the road doesn’t mean you should neglect your need for self-care. Be sure to bring along smaller versions of your favorite products (or even nicer ones to have something to look forward to!) I always bring an exfoliating scrub or mask and deep moisturizing mask to help me fake a good-nights sleep when I’m secretly 3000% rundown. I love these Laura Mercier La Petite Souffles.
- Healthy snacks & refillable water. Don’t put yourself at the mercy of what may or may not be provided during your travel by way of sustenance. The secret to staying at the top of your game is getting as much sleep as you’re able while attending as many beneficial networking opportunities and what you put in your body. Bring fruit, nuts and high-quality bars that meet your specific dietary needs.
- Tidy up before you leave. There is nothing better than returning to an organized home. Upon your arrival you’ll have to hit the ground running, providing reports from your travels, following up with leads acquired and more. Take care of this small step and acclimating back to your 9 to 5 will be a great deal easier.
