There are few things in life that have the ability to make us happier than the very first warm day of Summer.
Along with that joy, there is always a moment of sunshine induced panic lurking around the corner. Waiting to strike when our skin is not ready for the other comparatively revealing clothes that have gone neglected in our closets all winter.
This year can be different, and we will be ready for Summer’s big skin reveal. May will function as a boot camp for our skin, a time to take care of our most annoying skin issues with highly proven, instantly gratifying fixes recommended by dermatologists.

Ditch The Foam
If you’re over 25, get rid of the sudsy cleansers and use cream, milk or gel based products instead (chat with your aestheticism regarding which is best for you but typically; ultra-dry: cream, combination: milky, combination/oily: gel.)
Not only will they not strip the skin of its protective and natural oils, non-foaming cleansers are a lot less harsh on your skin in the mornings when it is already bare of makeup and needs more of a refresh.
I know what you’re thinking. Those won’t get all of my makeup off! We all should be double cleansing (just with the right products) especially if you’re using products with SPF in them.
Keep Your Hands Off
Stop using your hands to wash your face and get yourself a collection of white washcloths to cleanse with and follow up with your toner.

Swap Out Your Moisturizer
Get rid of your moisturizer and swap it out something a bit lighter.
Experts recommend hyaluronic acid or water based formulas during the warmer seasons. The skin tends to retain more water in the Spring and Summer, so we do not require the same amount of protection.
While SPF 30 moisturizers work well during the winter, it is important to choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 50 for the spring.
Arm Yourself Now
Unsightly arm bumps got you blue? You may need to switch up your bathing routine. By using a milky cleanser (soap free of course), pores are deeply cleaned and stressed skin receives natural conditioning.
From there, use an exfoliating body lotion that is rich in lactic acid. This unclogs the pores and hair follicles, reducing irritation levels.
If this routine doesn’t work for you, speak with a dermatologist, so they can prescribe a different topical treatment.
Do I Have to Tell You to Exfoliate?
We need exfoliation most when our skin is at its driest. Use a gentle exfoliating cleanser and do away with the harsh scrubs. A formula that contains small amounts of glycolic acid works quite nicely but as always, talk to a professional before making significant changes.
Do Some Spring Cleaning
Throw out any beauty product over six months old as they typically host a wide variety of bacteria which causes clogged pores and dull skin.
Makeup brushes also need to be tossed, as they provide a safe haven for germs and viruses. Brushes should be washed weekly with regular hand soap and properly dried before their next use.
Simplify Your Routine
Summer makeup routines are perennially simple and tinted moisturizer offers a stellar substitute for the heavier foundations you’re accustomed to.
Keep things as simple/light as possible and take makeup wipes with you everywhere you go.
