It began with our friends at Lincoln generously dropping off a beautiful MKX (that’s not just a Boston food blogger perk, Lincoln is the only luxury automaker to provide pickup and delivery service for all its vehicles as the standard) for us to explore in.
The MKX affords it’s driver both form and function with its astounding craftsmanship.
From its Bridge of Weir leather seats that endure a 16-hour softening process, to the painstakingly specific type of foam added to the console side panels to create a softer landing area for passengers legs.
A brief (and incredibly smooth) drive later and Matthew Simko of Simko Says and I were boarding the ferry at New London.
The weather was far too beautiful for us to remain inside and we enjoyed the view from the roof for most of the ride.
Our first stop, Sep’s Farm, was one with a great deal of history and the family that runs it holds a special place in my heart.
Sep’s is committed to not only providing the community with the freshest produce, but doing so in a sustainable, responsible manner.
After a memorable visit we headed to beautiful winery The Old Field, getting hands-on experience in pressing grapes.
Another family run pillar of the community, The Old Field had the most romantically rustic tasting room (seriously, you don’t want to miss it!)
Following a delicious (and wonderfully comprehensive) tasting, we were chauffeured to Little Creek Oyster for a truly enjoyable, not to mention tasty, shucking lesson with both owners.
Yet another company committed to supporting other local businesses, all of the beautiful kitchen accessories I saw were sourced from makers in New England.
Little Creek Oyster is another stop you can’t afford to miss (for the oysters but most certainly the most darling collection of oyster related bits and bobbles!)
Next was one of my favorites; The Kontokosta winery in Greenport which took home numerous awards at the 2016 New York Wine & Food Classic.
Kontokosta is housed in a beautiful barn that sits upon sixty-two acres along the Long Island Sound waterfront (more than a quarter-mile of views on views.)
We were provided an in depth tour of the facility by the owner, who was none too shy in talking about his successes and more importantly, his failures (which I always take to be a wonderful sign.)
After saying our farewells to the rest of the group that was heading back to Boston, Matthew and I headed straight to the beach just in time to sink our toes in the sand during sunset.
After some much needed vitamin sea, we headed to Sparkling Pointe at the recommendation of several locals.
There we indulged in sparkling wine after sparkling wine and delightful housemade crisps.
Bursting at the seams and already having fallen hard for the beautiful North Fork area, we headed back to our home for the evening; Heron Suites (owned by the same family that owns Sep’s Farm!)
When we entered our rooms each had a personal momento for us to take home; for me a thoughtful hat from the nearby marina for my father as I had mentioned his being a boatsman.
After relaxing and dressing for dinner we headed to Noah’s and The Frisky Oyster thereafter for a nightcap.
We enjoyed a restful nights sleep before packing up our spacious MKX to head back to the ferry.
But first, breakfast. We ordered literally anything and everything that sounded appetizing at Crazy Beans and it all lived up to our expectations (the service surpassed them!)
Our ride home went smoothly, mainly due to the Lincoln navigation system, as there was a massive truck that had overturned and we were notified soon enough to avoid it via guided backroads.
Thank you to everyone who showed us such a wonderful time, to Matthew for asking me to accompany him, and a thousand thank you’s to Florence for putting together such a flawless array of sights and experiences.
I cannot wait to return!
