In offering content to a more varied audience in the new year, I have teamed up with my stylish
friend Mr. 71 who will be providing tips for males on dressing for specific occasions and events.
We will also be featuring a few other surprises that are in the works.
Stay tuned and enjoy the following post, written by Mr. 71!
Some say he is so English that he faints when hears the name Paul Revere
and that he drives through Boston on the left side of the road.
All we know is that he’s a very English gentleman. Let me introduce you to Mr. 71:
To begin let me establish a few things: Firstly, I am English. Born and raised, which means
I say “sorry” a lot, even if it was your fault for walking into me (I was stationary.)
I carry an umbrella in the middle of summer (which is not necessarily a
bad idea in New England), and it is football not soccer!

Secondly, I am not a fashionable man, not whatever the equivalent of a male fashionista is, and this is not a fashion blog. Fashion is defined as a popular trend, trends indeed come and go, trends change and evolve.
Whilst I try to stay abreast of the current trends and I greatly appreciate the creativity
that goes into them, I am not inclined to purchase the latest item, brand, or look.
I do, however, consider myself a man of style. Classic and somewhat English style.
Style is a manner of doing something, an appearance, sometimes distinct, but style has longevity,
style does not undulate in and out of vogue, style is immune to trend.

Take another Englishman, albeit a fictional one, James Bond. For over 50 years, in several different guises James Bond has graced the big screen. In that half a century, fashion has changed considerably; colours, patterns, materials, dimensions, and fit, have all gone through various trends.
These trends have been reflected in his dress and the designers chosen to create the looks.
However, what has not changed is his distinct style: the impeccably fitting suit,
the perfectly knotted tie, the quality yet understated timepiece and so on.
James Bond has a personal style and that style is immune to the fashion of the time when the movies are made.
This is a blog concerned with style. It is meant to serve as a guide and inspiration in your journey
towards an enduring personal style. A style that has traditional roots and foundations, a degree of those roots
are steeped in Englishness, but the historians amongst us will clearly understand this.
My intention is that this exploration of style will arm you with knowledge and allow you to confidently walk the path towards establishing your own personal style, one which you can supplement with the latest evolution’s of fashion and current trends.
Mr. 71 will be making regular cameos on Notes On Lifestyle.
Providing helpful suggestions on dressing for particular occasions and events,
and even finding the perfect gift for the man in your life.
Do you have any questions/comments for Mr. 71?

May 14, 2016I don’t follow the current trends either. They change to fast and I can’t afford to keep up with them. Thank you for sharing this cute article
