About a month ago I was invited to the opening of Annie Hurlbut’s gorgeous boutique on
Boston’s retail hub Newbury Street, The Peruvian Connection.
The store was absolutely beautiful and unlike any I would have ever typically
ventured into and Annie is one of the sweetest and genuine people I have met in the somewhat uppity section of Boston.
It all started with Annie’s love for Anthropology and her time studying in Peru.
Each design is original and unique and there will only be six stores in the United States
(Boston being the last and clearly, best.)
So many of her pieces are cleverly made to be flattering in a manner that made me want to skip through the shop snapping up everything that caught my eye.
Her jersey dresses are double layered which creates a favorable silhouette
for even the most self-conscious of women while she uses Pima cotton (the softest and finest cotton in the world) for countless pieces.
Her use of color and mix of eclectic with current trends makes her brand unique
with an obvious forecast of serious longevity.
asked her where she found this beautiful couch.
Annie also uses Alpaca (which is so much softer than cashmere) and originally began working with Peruvians to give the sweaters they had been creating, more flair – effectively helping them to expand their market within North America.
Her company believes in and conducts itself wholeheartedly to Fair Trade standards (they do not own any production facilities in Peru) and creates many economic opportunities for the women of South America.
Thank you Annie, for sharing your story and your exquisite creations with me.
If you happen to be near one of her six stores (also in San Francisco, Chicago, Washington D.C, Kansas City, Santa Fe and London) pop in and let me know your thoughts.
I recently received the most gorgeous white Museo skirt (unfortunately now sold out but similar to the Souk skirt shown above) and cannot wait to share it with you!
Which piece is your favorite?
