Tinder, Bumble, JSwipe, or Petfinder…? Finding that special someone is more confusing than ever before, especially here in Boston. In this city navigating the T is easier than trying to navigate a man’s mind; but at least the T probably has more breakdowns than you do.
Julie Lauren understands this struggle almost more than anyone else, the only difference between her and I is that she reached for pen and paper, instead of the third pint of Ben & Jerry’s.
Oops!: An Insider’s Guide to Dating, Sex & Relationships In Your 20’s is Julie’s first book and it’s going to be your new handbook. The Guide is basically like Cosmopolitan’s more sophisticated looking sister.
I had the privilege of sitting with Julie at one of her book events this past week, and it felt like I was having a normal conversation with my friends, the only thing missing was the champagne!
The now married- writer was eager to share some words of wisdom, and most importantly how to avoid the ‘5 a.m. boot,’ which is a chapter in her book. Having lived in both Boston and NYC, Julie knows that the men of the concrete jungle are a different species of animal, and how their unique mating rituals can’t always be tamed.
Sadly, she did note that it was easier to find love in NYC; but I guess in the city with tourist attractions like the ‘Freedom Trail,’ it’s going to be harder to tie down a man.
Like a young, sexy Yoda, she wants girls in the city to know that when it comes to finding love in the city:
“Stay true to yourself and who you are. Don’t try to be like anyone else in order to impress a guy or girl. If they don’t like you for you, then you don’t want them anyway.
And, bottom line, HAVE FUN. These are the best years of your life. Enjoy every minute and don’t take it all too seriously.”
p.s. If you’re in the area and as obsessed with food as I am, RSVP to the healthy hands-on cooking class I am hosting in partnership with Salt For Life at The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts!
I hope to see you there Sunday!

April 2, 2016I find dating in today’s modern world stressful. Trying to find the right clothes and looking your best, plus putting your best self forward hoping for a connection. I wish it was easier.
