As I previously mentioned, from time to time I receive requests for curated articles (most of them Boston-centric.) However, I love the emails I receive from you all and in response, have decided to answer some of the most common inquiries.
Visiting a spa for the first time; though a relaxing experience, can apparently make some people anxious. Making sure you know what to expect during your first visit will make your time there a great deal more relaxing and enjoyable.

Unplug completely. A spa day is supposed to relax you, I turn my phone off completely as to divert my attention completely away from emails, texts and social media.
Even during a pedicure, reading a delicious new Weisberger novel or flipping through your favorite glossy is much more fun than returning endless emails.

Don’t be tardy for the spa party. Just be on time? If there is anything I can be on time for (barring work related, that goes without saying) it is my spa, hair and nail appointments.
These are important indulgences for you so get there early to maximize your time to be pampered and take advantage of all of the lovely amenities available (I love the spa slippers and plush robes at the Mandarin!)
Be vocal about your needs. You are paying a great deal of money for your day of beauty so do not be shy about voicing your wishes for your treatment(s)
Whether you prefer firmer pressure during your massage or very little conversation throughout the duration of your facial. The specialists are there for you and want you to be comfortable.
Hushed tones. A “spa voice” will ensure you do not disturb other patrons while maintaining the peaceful quiet we all look forward to prior to our wraps or Reiki sessions.

August 8, 2014Hi Georgina. Great tips on spa etiquette. I completely agree that when visiting a spa that turning off your cell phone and "unplugging" is a necessity!

August 13, 2014Gosh, now I am really wanting a day at a spa! I definitely can do better about unplugging though when I go to get a pedicure. There's really no need to be on my phone when I can really be treating myself to some R&R. thanks for the great advice!
