There’s not a girl alive who doesn’t have hair woes to contend with. I remember when I first began dating my boyfriend he asked if I stopped getting my hair treated, would I have beautiful curls, or dare he ask, even a natural afro.
I told him yes, somewhat unmanageable curls would ensue, and eventually the latter to his excitement.
It made me think about two things. 1 how lucky I was to have a boyfriend that embraced my hair in its natural state more than I, but also reflect on how none of us are happy with our tresses, and we do everything we can to wrestle them into submission!
Though each of our hair worries is individual to us, some problems are universal. We’re going to look at some of the most common hair complaints, and what you can do to tackle the problem!
Thick Hair
Thick hair can be hard to tackle. The main problem is there’s so much of it! Each time you wash your hair, you have the battle to get it back under control.
It’s also hard to find a style that suits you on a daily basis that can be created in a reasonable amount of time. The thicker your hair, the harder this can be.
You know the struggle – long styles are too heavy, but short styles stick out at the wrong angles.
Keep thick hair under control by getting it thinned (to an extent) and textured. This may make the hair easier to handle, but it will make it appear and feel lighter.
It’s also worth playing with up-dos. It’s possible to get your thick hair into a flawless style, it’s just going to take a little more time!
Thin Hair Lacking Volume
On the other end of the scale, there’s thinner hair. Thin hair may be easier to manage, but it’s also a harder problem to solve. Other than buying volume boosting products, it can seem as though there’s no answer.
Instead of removing hair, you want to give the impression you have more! The style you choose is important. Choppy, curly styles are best as they hide a multitude of sins. You may also be courageous enough to experiment with extensions.
That way, you can achieve the Brazilian natural wave you’ve always wanted!
Curly or Frizzy Hair
In addition to the density of your hair, you’ll have to cope with its natural disposition. The way our hair goes after we’ve washed it can be an interesting thing to cope with.
The blessed women out there have straight hair naturally, but the rest of us have to struggle through (I say this in jest I promise.)
If your hair is curly when it dries, there are things you can do to ensure the curls have some semblance of order.
I love limiting heat exposure and using a curl taming product with products like shea butter and argan oil to give my hair a healthy sheen while it protects the ends.
See your hairs unique, natural beauty.
Whatever quirks your hair has, it pays to learn to love them.
There’s pressure to hide or change the way our hair looks. A woman who doesn’t straighten her hair is a rarity and may get some strange looks. There’s no reason it should be that way.
The best way you can tackle your hair worries is to realize that your hair is beautiful, just the way it is. If you’re struggling to come to terms with the concept, research other people with the same hair type.
Seeing how beautiful they look can build your confidence!
