It can be so nice to destress and unwind after a busy day at work or school, right? It can make a massive difference to how you are feeling, in addition to giving you plenty of time to assess the day and evaluate how things went.
One thing that I know many of us love to do is to go to a salon or a spa. But quite often, you need to book in advance for that kind of thing.
You also need to do that in advance, and you don’t always know when you will want to do have a massage or get a pedicure.
Which is why it’s nice when you can relax and unwind and treat yourself in the comfort of your own home. If you are looking to do that, then there are some tried and tested ways that will help you to have the perfect night relaxing.
They are all simple but can make a difference to the ambiance of the night and also how you end up feeling. You’ll be feeling refreshed and rejuvenated before you know it.
Make Your Own Rose Water
Rose water is often used in spas and salons and you’ll find it as an essential in any makeup bag due to its beneficial astringent properties.
It can be a little pricey to buy though. So if you’re handy (which you should be if you’d made it this far purely out of interest) you can make your own quite easily to use as a toner.
All you need are some rose petals, which are easy to get hold of (try your garden or just get a couple from a florist, which is pretty inexpensive). You’ll need around half a cup of packed down rose petals.
Pour a cup of boiling water over the top of the petals. Leave for a few minutes and then strain or squeeze the petals until the liquid starts to cool.
Then just keep the jar in the fridge and use it as needed. Perfect if you are taking your makeup after work and want to leave your skin feeling fresh and smelling great.
Use What’s In The Kitchen
If you want to pamper yourself but it is all quite last minute, then there are lots of things that you can do.
You don’t need to get special ingredients in to have a face mask or do a deep cleanse on your hair and scalp. Raw eggs are great for skin and hair, and they can be added to bananas and oats mashed together make a great natural face mask.
Honey is great for skin as is aloe vera. There are lots of recipes for this kind of thing that you can find online. Just apply to your skin and leave it to do it’s magic as you paint your nails or shave your legs.
Rinse off, and your skin will be feeling smooth and moisturized.
Coconut Oil Everything
If you don’t have a jar of coconut oil in your cupboard, then it is time to get one.
It really is a miracle worker. You can use it as a lip balm, facial moisturizer, and the occasional hot hair treatment. It is also fantastic to use as a conditioner and moisturizer for your body.
It works well on all hair types too; thick and frizzy, as well as thin and silky. It can help to protect new hair, so great if you are trying to grow your hair out.
Just melt a few tablespoons of coconut oil and when cooled enough, pour onto your hair after shampooing. Rub it in and then leave for around thirty minutes so that it can do its thing. Then rinse off with warm water.
Wax On, Wax Off, Wax at Home
One of the great things about going to a spa or salon is that they will do things like waxing for you. Shaving your legs and bikini line is fine, but having them waxed is just so much nicer!
It also means that you don’t have to do it all over again in a few weeks. Waxing lasts so much longer!
So if you want to replicate that at home spa experience, then it is a great idea to get some wax strips in, then you can do a full body wax if needed. You’ll be feeling silky smooth for weeks.
Create the Ambiance of a Spa
It is nice to be able to create a bit of an ambiance, even when you are doing your own spa night at home.
Get a robe out to wear, as well as having some incense or scented candles on the go. Some music is always a good idea unless you’ll be having your favorite Netflix series playing in the background.
Who has to go out to a spa when you can create a serene environment in the comfort of your own home?
Make Your Own Steam Room
A great way to put your skin in check is to spend a bit of time in a sauna or steam room. Unless you happen to have one of those, you can create your own.
An easy way is to run your shower for around twenty minutes, using the temperature thermometer as high as it will go. Keep the doors and windows closed.
Then it will create a really steamy atmosphere in the bathroom. You could use some essential oils (I love the relaxing properties of lavender) to put on a washcloth. Then you can step in the room and use that washcloth for the true steam room feel.
Bring it close to your face and breathe in the steam and relaxing oil scent. It can help if you’re feeling a little run down as it is a great way to clear your sinuses. It is just a great way to relax and unwind, though, particularly before bed.
What are some of your favorite things to for a spa night at home? Is it something that you like to do from time to time?
