This weekend I stumbled upon what I consider a nutritional gold mine and could not wait to do a write-up for this organic juice bar on Hanover Street in Portsmouth, NH
I ordered: Green Power with kale and sweetened with agave syrup. Unfortunately, because of the high volume of customers that day, they were out of wheatgrass (an absolutely fundamental part of my smoothie) which is known for its cleansing abilities, benefits for a girls skin (my skin literally glows when I’ve been consistent in drinking them), and a natural energy source. Two ounces of wheatgrass is equivalent to the nutritional value of four lbs of vegetables, with vitamins: A, C, a variety of B’s, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and phosphorus.
Also offered: Organic, vegetarian foods such as:
The “Japanese Wrap”: Seasoned brown rice, ripe avocado, cucumber, romaine and shredded carrots with your choice of mustard tahini or ginger miso dressing all in a whole wheat tortilla.
Love tofu? Fresh hummus? Tempeh? Black bean salsa (one of my favs) even Nori seaweed? This place is for you!
Behind the counter: was a cute young man with an incredibly sunny disposition, while being extremely knowledgeable on the product he remained patient in explaining the importance of the essential nutrition he is providing. This is a place I will be visiting each time I visit Portsmouth. Being a Boston girl I pray something similar will pop up closer to home, or perhaps one day The Juicery will begin expanding.
Last tips: make sure to drop a quarter in the parking meter just in case, be patient: the traffic in and out can be insane but it is well worth the wait and embrace the environment: along with the smoothie, wrap or salad you will be receiving is vital nutrition knowledge that you can take with you forever. Stop by and let me know how your visit goes!
