A few weeks ago, Camille (the talented writer and photographer behind The NYC Diet) contacted me about an interesting topic she had, prompted by the kind of shopping trip we have all experienced.
Being in our mid to late twenties, many of us have realized that the products and
brands we once considered “okay,” just do not do the job anymore.
Yet, there are still so many things we will never outgrow.
Things I will not Scrimp On:
Absolutely anything to do with my hair. Great hair is essential in looking
put together and every dollar spent is done so without a single regret.

Wardrobe essentials: These are items I will use time and time again, a gorgeous pair of pumps, well-made oxford, tailored blazer, classic strand of pearls, timeless frames, etc.
While I may allow myself the occasional trendy piece, they are not usually at prices deemed a splurge.
{via} |
Literature: I spend an inordinate amount of money on books, both hard copy and electronic.
We are never beyond learning and it is almost impossible for me to leave a Barnes & Noble empty handed (and I would not have it any other way.)
What I will never be too old for:
Things of the sparkly, pink nature. There really is no concrete reason why,
they just brighten my day and make me happy.
{via} |
Dessert. I indulge in chocolates, froyo and other sweet treats not exceedingly often,
but I will not pretend they are exempt my diet.
Mittens. Believe it or not, I prefer them to gloves.
My hands just seem warmer when all of my fingers are nestled together.

Riding my bicycle. I cannot describe the feeling I get while riding my cruiser on a Spring day when buds are beginning to flower, on hot Summer nights with only the breeze to cool my skin or gorgeous Fall afternoons where the blazing colors of the foliage are nothing short of astounding.
What will you never grow too old for?

November 25, 2013aw i loved this post! it's totally true… you reach a certain age where you are more comfortable spending more on certain things [or maybe you finally have more to spend?]. i spend a lot of money on makeup and other toiletries, but i won't scrimp – i only buy all natural products that are super healthy. and you know what is i love mittens too π
Georgina Castellucci
November 26, 2013I think it is definitely a combination of those two Alaina π
Quality beauty products are more important than ever now and you have such gorgeous skin! xo
Shana Norris
November 25, 2013Absolutely on the books. I hope I never stop buying them.
And, I prefer to run in mittens over gloves because they keep my fingers so much warmer in freezing winter temps!
Georgina Castellucci
November 26, 2013Oh Shana, after seeing your amazing collection I am almost 100% sure you will never stop buying them xo

November 26, 2013Yes so true I have learned less is more and it is better to have a few quality items then a bunch of junk. In particular hand bags I just do not bother with cheap ones anymore.

November 26, 2013Love this post! I'm with you, on classic pieces of clothing/accesories. I'll spend extra money say on nice work pants, a nice blazer, a nice wool coat, leather gloves, etc.
I will never be too old for coloring! Even just sitting at the table with Dominic and coloring with him in one of his coloring-books soothes me. I feel like a kid again, I feel calm, and Dominic really enjoys it when I do things like that with him. Also playing with Play-Doh, haha. One of the best things about being a parent is you get to do all those kid things again like singing silly songs, playing, running, and going to the playground.
