Several weeks ago I was invited to attend and cover the BMC Catwalk for Cancer Care VIP Reception and Fashion Show at the gorgeous State Room which overlooks Boston.
After getting my hair blown out by the wonderful Vicky at BeStyled Chestnut Hill,
I donned my gold Carmen Marc Valvo dress with the lovely Vanessa.
MC’d by Kim Khazei and Adam Williams from WHDH, we mingled and posed for photographs while meeting new faces and learning more about Boston Medical Center and all they do for our city.
This event was most special to me because though there were professional models strutting down the runway, the true stars were the brave and fabulous cancer patients
that had been fitted in one of a kind pieces by the designers.
I watched these men and women walk down the runway, head held high,
overcome with emotion and instantly became choked up myself.
Each and every one of them beautiful and beaming from the inside out.
Hearing their stories, having to surpass all types of hurdles just to receive their cancer treatments made me realize the dire need for events like this in which to raise money.
Local talent included Bryan Finocchio who did a fantastic job styling apparel by Macy’s, Denise Hajjar, Lori Kyler Christenson of Venni Caprice, Couture Design Installations by students of Lasell College and a great deal more!

I left the event inspired and desperately wishing to become more involved.
Luckily, after meeting famed event photographer Bill Brett (and having him snap my photo) I had a small photo in The Boston Globe.
One of the loveliest women who works at Boston Medical Center saw the photo and contacted me!
Many people are so busy and do not have the time to donate due to a multitude of responsibilities.
Though I do not often include links like this on my blog,
I feel very strongly about what Boston Medical Center is doing.
Not only do they provide a way for patients to overcome the obstacles prior to undergoing cancer treatment like their Patient Transportation Program to ensure all are able to arrive at the dialysis and chemotherapy appointments.
Many of the things we take for granted are out of reach for a great number of others.
Thank you to the Phalen’s who made the evening such a success, the sponsors and Lindsay and Holly for including me!
If you would like to become involved please do, there is no time like the present!
When what the last time you attended an event that inspired you?
