Each and every one of us is trying to lead an eco-friendly way of life. Not only is this better for the environment, but living a natural and organic life has also been linked to improving our health.
There are lots of ways you can enjoy an environmentally friendly way of life, including eating organic food and installing green systems into your home.
But have you also thought about how you can improve your decor? There are various ways you can create an eco-friendly decor for your home.
Here are the dos and don’ts that you need to remember when it’s time to change yours.
Do Look Into Brands
It can be ever so easy to simply buy furniture and materials from the most popular brands that are available on the market.
However, these may not be the most environmentally friendly of products. Before you do commit to buying a certain brand, you should do your research into the background of the company.
Ideally, it needs to be using sustainable and low-carbon methods to produce its items. It is also a good idea to look at which suppliers it uses.
Ideally, these should be eco-friendly companies too. You should be able to find most of the information you need on your company website.
Don’t Use Toxic Paints
You might think that paint is a very simple product to buy, and there isn’t much difference between the different paints that you see in the shops except their color!
However, this couldn’t be further from the truth! Next time you decide to renovate or decorate a room and buy some new paint, make sure that it isn’t toxic.
Toxic paint is bad for wildlife and is often made by very unsustainable methods. Picking an organic paint is a much better option.
Do Go Smart
Thanks to lots of recent tech advances, there are now lots of smart systems and products that you can install into your home.
These connect to various systems, such as heating and air conditioning and link them up to apps on your phone. You can then control them even while you aren’t at home.
This can drastically cut down your use of energy at home! If you look at sites like The Smart Future, you will be able to see reviews for these different smart products!
Don’t Buy New Furniture
Even if you do need some new furniture when you are decorating, it’s a good idea not to buy brand new pieces, as these will have large carbon footprints.
You should consider buying second-hand pieces from thrift stores or vintage shops. Alternatively, you could be creative and repurpose or upcycle some of your old furniture.
If you are desperate for a new item of furniture, though, be sure to look out for items that have been made using reclaimed materials, such as reclaimed woods and glass.
Eco-friendly decorating is set to really take off over the next few years. Make sure you are implementing in a way that works for you (and the environment!)
