Coming home from a long day of work we typically love nothing more than relaxing in our favorite chairs. We may put our feet up, enjoy a nice mug of our favorite bedtime tea, and begin to wind down from the day.
So when it comes to our home decoration selections, it’s vital that all elements work to help us achieve that haven for us.
A cozy theme can be just what your living room or the rest of your home needs. Below are some of the ways you can achieve that highly sought after lived in yet pulled together look.
Get Inspiration from Nature’s Best
Some people can go all out when it comes to a theme while others may choose to add accents and bits here and there. The best way to imagine a cozy home for some would be to imagine being in a log cabin.
A roaring fire with lots of wooden furniture and accents artfully arranged within the space. Cabin décor is much easier to achieve than most (especially easier than my favorite; French country rustic) but picking up certain features like curtains or log side units would be a great place to start.
You could even consider a wooden stags head as a feature on a wall.
Soft Furnishings Are Key
For any space to feel inviting, incorporating soft furnishings is always going to be high on your priority list. That means plenty of cushions, blankets and throws to keep you warm and comfortable.
This is where your styling can make a huge difference to how your space looks. Plenty of cushions and things can make your space feel cluttered. But styled right it will appear inviting. It’s all about positioning so no throwing them out too haphazardly hoping for the best, and consider the fabric (elect for high quality when you’re able.)
I love to put out pillows made with cable knit during cooler months, opting for lighter fabrics during the warmer.
Make it Personal
Your living room space, or anywhere else in your home for that matter, needs to feel personal. It is your home after all.
A great way to achieve this would be to add pictures of you and your family. These can be added to the walls or just dotted about on window sills, using pin boards and other fun ways to display them.
Change up the photos each season to keep things fresh.
Stick with Neutral Tones
A cozy home has a somewhat shabby chic feel to it (heavy on the chic though.) This will be emulated in the color scheme you choose. You are best sticking with neutral shades like creams or browns.
There needs to be a calming ambiance about it, and the color you choose will have an effect on that.
Add a feature that draws you in
Finally, add a feature that draws you in. Perhaps you have a fireplace that you don’t use, or you could consider adding a a gas unit that also emits heat. Things like this draw you into your space, will instantly put you at ease and can center your room.
What are some ways you make your home a cozier place?
