There’s no avoiding restoration and renovation in the home every now and then. Trends change, and the need for something new takes over.
Renovation work can be stressful. It’s hard work and you can forget why you thought it was a good idea when you’re living with the stress of the reality.
When the work is finished, you’re left with a space that is absolutely beautiful and a space you’re proud of. So, how do you get it looking the way you want?
The Cleaning Process
There’s no denying that renovation work is messy. It’ll cover your home in dust, and you’ll be unable to see your dream room through the multiple layers of it.
The first job to focus on after the renovation is the clean up.
In my experience, it’s hard to appreciate the work you’ve done when you can’t see it. Even if you’re renovating only one room in your home, the extent of cleanup can seem pretty overwhelming.
If it’s not your first time going through the process, you may have thought ahead and attempted to do a bit as the project progressed which alleviates a bit of the pressure.
When we think about renovations, we think of the new space as exactly that. A new space.
So in treating it as such, it’s nice to get as deep of a clean as we can, unscrewing and cleaning vents with warm, soapy water, and wiping down absolutely every nook and cranny.
Multiple vacuums will be required, and think about going over any furniture that remained in the room (albeit was covered) with the upholstery attachment.
Lastly, hire a junk removal company to take all of it off your hands without an added hassle.
Redecorating with Your Existing Items
Even once the mess is gone, you may find it hard to envision the room the way you wanted it.
The room may still be far from being complete.
Hopefully you created a plan prior to this stage to cultivate a vision of what you would like to come together.
You may not feel like doing anything after all of your hard work on the renovation, but it’s crucial you move straight into decoration.
If you close the door on the work you’ve done, it’s possible the work will go unfinished for some time (it’s all too easy to lose momentum!)
Don’t hesitate to finish what you’ve started. Choose the perfect paint color and get to work.
Invest in New Items to Match Your New Aesthetic
So now you have permission to go shopping.
Nothing reinvigorates excitement for a project like buying new household pieces (the same goes for working out doesn’t it?)
Shopping is especially going to help if you’ve lost the vision you had in the first place. The pieces you buy will help you reimagine the room you had in mind and it’s worth getting them before the room is finished.
They’ll give you incentive to get the work finished if only to clear the bags cluttering your house and planning the bits you’re set to buy can also help you figure out the style you’re after.
How do you go about finishing up home decor projects, and what setbacks have you previously faced?
