However, in thinking of Easter Sunday, I am brought back to bright little party frocks in pale pink, lavender or minty green (my mother never matched my sister and I thank goodness).
Smart little hats perchy jauntily on our little noggins and cheerful wicker baskets clutched tightly in our tiny hands to place our found treasures in.
In my family, we would go to my uncles sprawling house in Groton for an Easter egg hunt the afternoon after morning mass.
There was candy aplenty from the moment we walked in the door, so our eggs were filled with, you guessed it, money.
Something I sometimes think about from time to time, are the special songs we sing in Church, usually only on the more attended holidays, Christmas, Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.
My nervous little warbly voice, trained with lessons from the tender age of 6, carried over the pews of parishioners and I’d like to think, provided a bit of entertainment for them and a sense of pride for my parents.
My Easter outfit would now consist of a pastel blazer over a gorgeous, probably floral dress with somewhat sensible heels (it’s still church).
What does this time of year bring you back to besides bright colors, Peeps and Sunday hymns? What traditions stand out to you or childhood memories that bring a smile to your face?
