As a part of Yelp’s Boston Elite Squad, I have the chance to attend fun events
for free in addition to a lot of great social affairs.
I was provided a generous packet of tickets for the 2012 Food Truck Festival
in Boston a few weeks ago and enjoyed myself immensely.
Ready for the food porn?
The day started off on a positive note as I pulled up to a full parking lot prepared to
ask the attendant for suggestions on where else I could park. He waved me right in
because luckily at that very moment someone had left. Bingo.
My first stop was Savory Chinese where I was completely ignored and finally a bit
frustrated, just left without ordering anything from them. Cool.
Everything was amazing from then on as I popped by the infamous Roxy’s Gourmet
Grilled Cheese where I indulged in a Green Muenster and Rosemary Truffle fries.
Oh heaven! I nearly went back to genuflect in front of the darn cook it was that
surreal. Knowing I had a lot of food to taste, I offered the other half to a couple
waiting pretty far back in line. Funnily she posted about it here!
Next was my other favorite: Bon Me Vietnamese where I had the Organic Tofu
and Shitake Mushroom Rice Bowl which was light, fresh and incredibly delicious.
The staff was quite friendly also!
The Happy Taco was my next target and I was pretty excited about. While I was in the
very long line (good sign) I noticed a pretty great tattoo on the nape of a girls neck.
It read: ” When it’s looking dark, punch the future in the face.” I kinda loved it.
That and the fact that she seemed to be the coolest mother ever as her young son had
a Hello Kitty ribbon adorned fedora and her equally young daughter was perfectly
accessorized down to her summery straw tote that matched her shoes and dress.
So bad news. They were out of duck tacos. I chose the chicken instead of the saigon
pork or baja fish and the chicken pretty much melted in my mouth.
I quickly power-walked (lol) over to Frozen Hoagies for something cold and
stumbled upon any foodies nirvana. Nutella in every thang.
I chose to flank my mocha chip ice cream with two nutella cookies.
That was a good decision.
Prepared for some good ole Southern comfort food I approached
Gabi’s Smokeshack BBQ where I went with the pulled pork taco topped with
fresh coleslaw. Delicious but lacking the amount of spices I expected.
I then headed to “Europe” with The Paris Creperie which had the longest line
of the entire event. After ordering the Nutella Crepe (I know, more Nutella!? Yes.)
I was handed the most delectable toasted goodness I actually had to close my eyes.
Last was the Dining Car where I selected the gluten-free Crispy Cauliflower.
It had a cornflour coating, was lightly fried to achieve a wonderful crispiness and
smothered in a nutty, curry aioli drizzle. So amazing, a genius blend of spices!
What an amazing day. Just as I was walking back to my car it began to rain,
perfect timing. Thank you again to Damien S and the entire Yelp crew for
providing all of the taste tickets for this event. I had a blast and left with a full stomach.
What was your favorite? Do you eat at food trucks?
