Many people choose January 1st as a time of rebirth and reinvention.
Anything seems possible when we feel we are back at the beginning.
Below are a few tips to aid you in sticking with your goals and making
2013 a year you can look back on with pride.
1. Small steps or big steps? Different strokes for different folks. Many people find that
focusing on larger goals tends to yield them more immediate results which only
motivates them to continue the behavior that provided such beneficial results.
2. Maintain the mindset of the person you aspire to be. Is one of your goals to spend more time in the kitchen cooking healthy meals? Training for a half-marathon?
Train yourself to think like a culinary goddess or think to yourself, would a true
marathoner skip this workout to go watch Girls on HBO? I think not.
3. Hold yourself accountable in the manner most daunting to you. This may mean
making a public announcement, gym dates with a friend or signing up with a trainer.
Believe me. It’s gon’ work.
4. Make sure you’re ready to make this change. Can your body handle it? Do you
realistically have the time to take another class or train 4x a week?
5. Listen to your feelings but believe in pure logic. Feelings can lie, make us biased or
allow us to do what we wish rather than what we know we should.
The only way to lose weight is to exercise, eat healthier, eat less and be consistent.
You may feel like something else may be the answer or that you can eat loads of junk food
today because your diet begins tomorrow but the true voice of reason tells us
that ain’t helpin’ girlfriend.
2012 was a year of transition for me. I wanted to step out of
my comfort zone and feel like I was truly living without fear.
Twice I took to the stage to sing karaoke on my own.
(I am actually a trained singer, pianist and violinist which most people do not know.)
A somewhat impromptu trip to Vegas brought fantastic memories.
Diligence in the gym, healthy eating and time in the kitchen finally prevailed.
I followed my passionate pursuit within literature.
My personal life took so many unexpected turns, some up, many down.
However there are no regrets. I learned from everything.
I’m seeing so much of this posted everywhere and for me it’s wrong.
2013 doesn’t need to be good to me. I will be good to myself.
What are your aspirations for 2013?

January 3, 2013Great post! We have similar resolutions. I'm a trained singer, as well, and you'd never know it when I get up for karaoke. My stage fright takes over my body, and well, it's bad. Hope the New Year brings you great success!!
Blessings,
Stephanie
