When giving your home a bit of a facelift, there are multiple factors that require attention and special care. The smaller, seemingly insignificant elements are in fact those that contribute the most towards a successful home-improvement project.
Lighting is in my opinion, one of the most important as it can enhance your home and create the illusion of more space. Here are some way to optimize the light within your living space.

Create Alternative Angles: Contemporary lighting is wonderful in that there are a multitude of fittings and products that create varying angles of light. Spotlight and compact plinth lights illuminate living spaces, perfect for more modern kitchens and dining areas.

Play with Shade & Tone: for most, the aim of the project at hand is to create a space that reflects ones design ethos and creative stance. Mood is a central piece in this process and a detail as small as a dimmer switch will allow you to adapt the amount of light to create a more intimate mood during a dinner party or date night with your significant other (oo la la!)

Embrace LED Lighting: I know…LED? Fear not, while the initial LED bulbs on the market were relatively limited in terms of design, the current range of fifth-generation fittings are far more aesthetically pleasing.
LED lights are also capable of delivering considerable financial savings over time. Available now through a variety of suppliers like BrightLightz, their combination of style and functionality means it will remain a key feature within contemporary homes.
How do you best utilize light within your home?

January 22, 2014Oh my goodness, I almost fell over when I saw that kitchen. So elegant. I could imagine microwaving all my meals in that kitchen. Hahahahaha! But seriously, gorgeous!
Steve has converted most of the bulbs in our house to LED, especially since the prices on bulbs went down substantially. Our main room has 18 foot ceilings with floor to top windows, so I embrace that for lighting.

January 26, 2014I can almost never keep the kitchen clean as I'm always making a cup of something, trying a new dish or heating up a plate of leftovers. Your high ceilings sound AMAZING (pictures one day!)? xo

January 23, 2014We need to put a dimmer switch on our dining room light. I always tell my husband it feels like we're eating dinner in an operating room it's so bright and glaring. When we moved into our 1960s-era home, there was fluorescent lighting EVERYWHERE. We've slowly gotten rid of all but two. It's the worst light ever for creating mood, IMO!

January 26, 2014Oh Shana this comment made me laugh as I imagined you almost squinting your way through dinner (a gross exaggeration I know…) xo

January 23, 2014We have some good natural light too, but it doesn't last for too long. Definitely try to take advantage of it when I can 🙂

January 26, 2014Isn't it!? Yes I imagine it's the type of kitchen where only gourmet dishes are created (and I am NOT there yet!) Haha xo
