If your living room is in desperate need of a remodel, a tight budget should not prevent you from achieving the look you’re after. There are plenty of simple and inexpensive ways to refresh and revitalize your living room without breaking the bank.
If you start by de-cluttering and rationalizing the items in your living room, you will find the process much easier and be able to make much better use of the space you have.

Add Personality. The most stylish living rooms are those that stand out. To ensure a more innovative design, do not hesitate to add personality when designing or redesigning your living room. A feature wall can increase the uniqueness of a room, and it means that you don’t have to fully commit to a bold color or busy wallpaper print.
Wall decals in large, striking designs can be used to accentuate features such as fireplaces, and add borders to artwork or mirrors. All are relatively inexpensive and can be taken down without damaging your walls.

Lighten up. For living rooms that do not receive a great deal of natural light, adding mirrors will give the illusion of more light and space. A beautifully carved mirror frame can completely transform a room and placing flowers in front of mirrors will enhance their effect.
If you’re worried about a room seeming dark, choose a light color for the walls and ceiling. Make sure there is plenty of lighting from table and floor-standing lamps.

Finishing Touches. An old sofa or shabby armchair can be given a new lease on life with the help of a patterned throw. This will hide stains and allow you to save money on a new piece of furniture.
If you’re able to use sewing machine (which I am not well versed in), you can even try making your own, perhaps with cushion covers to match. Worn carpets can easily be hidden with bright rugs that compliment the room’s color scheme.

Putting up shelving or investing in a bookcase, like those from the Trade Furniture Company will show off your books, music and ornaments. A living room will look be more welcoming with these items as they reflect the interests and personalities of those who live in the house.
How do you refresh your house from time to time?

January 26, 2014A simple refresh is updating the pictures in our frames or even just actually putting a picture in the frame. LOL We also move our ottoman around to make our living room look bigger from time to time. 🙂
