making that very same high-maintenance bed each morning, there is no denying that well-dressed beds make an
amazing focal feature.

Knowing how to create that interior designer-esque look
is no easy feat and achieving the perfect balance of color/texture can be tricky. If you love the look of perfectly dressed beds but are unsure of where to start, here are a few tips.

Sizing
Your largest
pillows or cushions should sit propped up against the headboard with the rest leaning against them in descending order. This
creates symmetry and allows all of the cushions to be visible, creating a more
aesthetically pleasing arrangement.

Color Palette
When it comes to
color, you should abide by the rule of three. Three co-ordinating (or clashing,
if you prefer a bolder look) colors should be selected and stuck to, as
throwing in more shades starts to make things feel a bit messy.

You could
opt to go for neutral shades with a pop of color. This works well if your
bedroom already has an accent color.

Texture
Playing around
with textures can add an interesting aspect to any bedding arrangement. Whether you
go for delicate embroidery or soft faux fur depends on your personal taste and
the look you’re going for.

Pattern
Similarly,
patterned cushions work well for creating dimension and anything from florals
to stripes and animal print can add that little bit of something extra.

Do not
be afraid to mix bold patterns with textures; as long as you have some other
plain cushions thrown into the mix, everything will be balanced.

Bedspread or Coverlet
Adding a bedspread to a regular duvet cover can be the perfect finishing touch to a well-dressed bed.
Go for something that compliments the cushion arrangement by picking out the accent color, or if you feel like the arrangement needs toning down, opt for a neutral shade with an interesting yet simple texture.
Following these tips should have you well on your way to creating a Pinterest-worthy bed of your own, but if you’re still having trouble visualizing the different elements of the perfect well-dressed bed, check out this image.
If all that sounds like far too much effort, you could leave out the cushions and let the bed do the talking with an elaborate frame like the ones from And so to Bed.
Which aspect do you focus on the most?

August 12, 2013I love all those beds I see on Pinterest! If we didn't let our poochies sleep in the bed with us, I'd probably have gone for a lot of white with pops of color. These are great tips and will be keeping them in mind for the next time we redo our bedroom!

August 12, 2013My bed is quite similar to the bed in that picture, except the fabric is a light gray. We went for an Old Hollywood type look in our bedroom. It's not Pinterest worthy, but I love it
