Having an extra
bedroom is ideal when you have friends or family in town, but for most people
that may not be a frequent occurrence.

Meanwhile, you are left with a guest
bedroom that serves no other purpose, and may seem like wasted space. Here are
some clever ways to make the most of it:

Invest in a Day Bed
A bed is the
most essential feature of your spare room as it is important that guests have restful
evenings throughout the duration of their visit.

However, a standard single or
double means the room can really only function as a bedroom.

A day bed will double up
as a bed and sofa when placed against
a wall, so when there are no guests, you can dress it up with pretty throw
pillows along the frame to turn it into a comfortable sofa.

Add a Hidden Desk
Your spare
bedroom can double as an office if you choose the desk carefully. A hidden or fold
down desk attached to the wall can be used as a computer area for you or even a
quiet study room for children.

When guests arrive, simply fold it down and you
will instantly transform the space back into a bedroom. Check out the cleverly

Use it as a Dressing Room
If you include a
dressing table, your spare bedroom can be used as an area for getting ready in
the morning. Store your make-up and hair tools in an easily transportable
basket that can be picked up and moved back to your own bedroom when guests
come to stay.

You can even make use of the spare closet for planning outfits on
a day-to-day basis or for special occasions.

Rather than having that beautiful
evening dress crammed into your own closet the night before a significant event,
hang it up along with any accessories and the shoes you plan to wear in the
spare closet.

Then when you begin to get ready, your outfit, make-up and
hair products will all be in one clutter-free environment, so you do not have
to rummage around for that matching clutch bag before dashing out the door.

August 15, 2013Ooof! If only I had an extra bedroom! I would totally pull an Emily of Cupcakes & Cashmere and turn it into a home office/place for displaying extra pretty clothes + shoes 🙂 Ok, so, a big walk-in closet with a desk I guess…

August 15, 2013I don't have a spare bedroom but if I did I'd want it to be just like that bohemian example you have with the day bed. Or I'd make it a closet/office hybrid like LSD has in her Manhattan apartment!
