I previously mentioned that I finally set up a small home office for
myself where I now spend my time reading, writing, studying and blogging.
My place is by no means a palace, but decorating is always fun yet a
challenge. My main one? Incorporating necessary elements with little space.
Before purchasing practical pieces like my desk or chair, I purchased some artwork from Boston native Katie Rodgers of Paper Fashion!
To the left is one of the two pieces that should be arriving shortly.
I love supporting Boston area businesses and was delighted to see Katie highlighted on Boston Magazine’s website. She even tweeted me back!
Next came my desk, comfortable “executive” chair (okay, a cheaper version obviously,)
a monogrammed tray for mail and outgoing correspondence and small necessities.
A pretty vase for flowers, a new notebook in which I hope to fill with notes for
my book, a dainty teacup and saucer and pretty lamp.
1. Make sure to balance function with pieces that showcase your personality.
I love working in a place that is me yet still has adequate supplies to serve their purpose.
2. Since you’re not working with a lot of space, tying the room together can be as simple as
a gorgeous rug that matches the window treatments or complementary desk accessories.
3. Think on a smaller scale. Multipurpose furnishings are key as are ones
that can fold or become smaller when not in use. Tables with more narrow legs
can create more space also!
4. Minimalism is always chic. People don’t have to know that your less is
more esthetic is more out of necessity that for overall stylish application.
5. Double up your decor using pin and inspiration boards for both work
and embellishment!
How did you go about decorating your home office?
Images of my dream offices are here.
