Whether you subscribe to the principles of Feng Shui or not, there is no denying that the entrance to your home is a very important place. Keeping this area free of clutter, clean and well-decorated welcomes everyone to your home. It gives you a sense of well-being and peace.
It is attractive and satisfying to make your entrance as open as possible. It will make your property look better, and it may well attract good fortune to your entire household. Here are a few ways to declutter, spruce up and to consider how the entrance to your house can help you achieve a calmer and more positive energy.
Get rid of clutter.
Diminishing clutter is one of the core elements in the Feng Shui handbook but it also just makes plain sense. The more clutter you have around any area of your living or work space, the more difficult life will be.
Think about the entire entrance to your home. Look at it from the street or roadside and consider how it can be cleared and improved. Get rid of any old pots that are cracked or chipped. The same applies to any plants that are dying or dead.
If you keep your recycling bins near your door then change their positions, or put them somewhere else entirely. No one wants or needs to have rubbish by their door!
If your deck has become a dumping ground for your boots, umbrellas, boxes and miscellaneous objects, clear it out. Now consider the hallway. The same principles apply. Keep the pathway into your house smooth, uncluttered and open.
Make an Entrance.
How you get to your door is a consideration. If you have a path way, it should be well maintained and also free of clutter. Think about how you can make this area more attractive. Large trees are not necessarily a good idea, and shrubs that were once planted as hedges for privacy can often become overgrown and ugly.
It may be time for these to come out and be replaced. Old concrete can be taken up and paths made more attractive with gravel, stones or even laid to brick or tiles. If your door opens out onto the street, how about a small porch or shelter?
Consider the Front Door
This is the main entrance to your house. Your door is the way that good energy comes into your home and your life. On an energy level this is about nourishment and well being. Good energy circulates and makes its way around a house.
Encourage this by looking at your front door. It should be in good repair, clean and well painted. It should not squeak or stick. It should be easy to open and smooth to close. Modern front doors are strong and secure with lines and designs that will complement your home.
Replacing your front door with a new, more secure version is easy to do. It will make your home more secure and stylish. This is one of the main founding principles of energy in the home. A door should be strong, well balanced and well looked after!
One key characteristic to consider is the size of the door. If your house has been extended, you may consider enlarging the entrance. This might also be a consideration if you are thinking about renovations. Getting the entrance to your home right is important.
It is not that you necessarily need to have a larger door, but it may be that you can add panels each side that can complement the door. At the same time, these can be subtly glazed and give you extra sources of light.
Deck Your Hallway
You have cleared the entrance and ensured that your door is well cared for and robust. Move into the hallway and have a think about simple touches of decor. A welcome mat is a great idea. It should have bright and bold patterns. A vibrant welcome mat encourages both good energy and extends your greeting to visitors.
A side table can be a good addition to a smaller hallway. If you have space, a larger round table could do the trick. Placing some fresh flowers here is also a great touch. If your hallway is dark, consider adding a small table lamp. Energy principles recommend not having a mirror opposite the door. It will reflect energy away from the house. Hang your mirror on the side wall instead. Finally, paint your walls here in strong and vibrant colours.
There’s nothing like standing back to admire your efforts, appreciating the wonderful job you have done welcoming visitors and encouraging positive energy into your home.
How did you set the tone of your home when you first moved in?
