Of all the rooms in your home, your living room should be the one that you’re most proud of. It’s the ‘public’ space of your home, the place where you hold social occasions and entertain your guests. The layout and design of the space should make it somewhere that you are happy to show people.
Amazingly, many people struggle when it comes to their living rooms. The main problem being that they never seem to change it up enough; they might repaint now and then, but that’s about it.
With your living room being somewhere that you spend a lot of time in, it should be a space that you love. If time and time again it’s designed in a similar way, you’re going to grow bored of it very quickly.
If you want to totally transform your living room, it will require a major overhaul. To help you ensure that your lounge transformation is incredible, here are a few ideas. Take these onboard and you can design a living room that’s everything you want it to be.
Start with the layout
For a total transformation, the design of the space needs to change. This isn’t just a case of swapping around where your furniture goes, but it’s also about considering knocking down walls.
If your living room backs onto a room that’s barely used or your garden, consider extending it. This will take your living room overhaul to a whole new level, transforming it completely. As well as extending the room, what about adding a bay window?
Obviously, you won’t be able to extend the room yourself, for this, you’ll need to get some help. If the wall being moved has electrical wires, it might be wise to contact a company that offers emergency electrical services. After all, you don’t want yourself or your contractor getting electrocuted, do you?
Take up the floor
If you’ve had the same flooring for years, it’s got to go. Take up the flooring in your living room and replace it with something completely different.
When selecting the perfect flooring for your lounge, remember to be practical. Oh and it’s probably best to stick to neutral colors, to ensure it works with your color scheme.
For example, fluffy, white carpet might look fantastic, but the chances are if it’s walked on a lot, it will get ruined easily. If your lounge gets a lot of foot traffic, it’s much better to opt for hardwood or tiled flooring. To add a little extra comfort, you could always put down a fluffy area rug or opt for underfloor heating.
Add molding to the walls and ceiling
To give the room a sense of elegance, consider having molding added to the walls and ceilings. In years gone by, every home had molding, but today it’s not so popular.
However, if you want to give your living room a chic, sophisticated vibe, it’s perfect. The great thing about molding is that it comes in a range of styles and designs, and isn’t expensive to have done. All you’ll need to do is hire a plaster with experience in molding – whatever you do, don’t try to do it yourself.
Implement a new color scheme
Last but not least, one of the easiest and best ways to transform your living room is by switching the color scheme. Obviously, if you want to make a big impact, you need to opt for a color scheme that’s completely different.
For example, if your previous color scheme consisted of bright, bold tones, your next one could be pastels.
If you’re looking to mix things up and give your lounge a new look, the ideas above will hopefully be a good stepping stone in getting you started.
