Winter has been in full swing for a little while now here in Boston, which means that we’ve been dressing in the same somewhat bulking outerwear for a few months. If you’re someone who gets bored wearing the same things easily as I do, chances are that you’re already getting tired of your winter look.
The good news is that there are plenty of simple ways that you can update your winter wardrobe, it’s just a matter of working out where your look is lacking.
Is your winter style just too dull? Could you benefit from adding a little color and pattern to your look? Or is your winter wardrobe simply missing essential accessories?
There are many reasons why your winter wardrobe may no longer excite you, but don’t stress, as it’s a problem that’s easy to fix. All you need to do is give your wardrobe an update and shake up your signature look a little.
Start with Your Shoes
Your shoes are one of your biggest style statements; you may not realize it, but they are. If you’ve been switching between the same couple of pairs of shoes for a while, the chances are that’s part of the reason you’re bored.
How about switching your shoes for a couple of new pairs of leather or suede boots or booties in the midst of all your riding and OTK boots? Mix it up a bit.
To get an idea of how chic a well-designed pair of ankle boots can look, check out this post about holiday style and use it for inspiration. In the winter, it’s all about keeping warm, and a pair of ankle or knee-high boots are the perfect to accomplish the feat of being both warm and fashionable.
While leather and suede can both look good, suede is a bit more fun so if you can opt for it when the weather allows if you feel so inclined.
Upgrade Your Knitwear
For winter style, beautiful knitwear is a staple. A lot of us spend the entire winter living in sweaters, slouchy beanies, adorable sweater dresses, and that’s just fine.
If you’re getting bored of rotating the same pieces over and over, it could be time to mix things up. The good news is that you don’t necessarily have to ditch the knitwear, you just need to pick some different pieces.
If you don’t already have a couple of short-sleeved, boxy cardigans, invest in these. Opt for one neutral and one printed design and team them with skinny jeans and long-sleeved plain t-shirts, and you’ll look amazing. (You could also add a stylish scarf, chic jewelry and a pair of cute ankle boots to dress the look up a little more.)
Make scarves your statement
I don’t know about you, but during the winter months I think scarves make the perfect statement piece. It’s amazing how swapping to a new scarf can give your entire wardrobe a fresh feel. There’s something about topping your look with a new scarf design that gives you that feeling of flaunting a new style.
I love adding pops of color or pattern using my accessories in a beautiful texture like cableknit or a luxe cashmere. There’s no need to buy a new coat every month to update your look!
Want to give your winter look an overhaul? All you need to do is think about where things could use a bit of spicing up and incorporate subtle changes.
