Other than shaping my brows, dabbing on a bit of eye cream (even it provides sun protection) and pulling my hair back – I don’t go through extraordinary lengths to look like a glamazon in the office.
Evenings and weekends are a different story. Cleansing, toning, weekly (sometimes bi-weekly) exfoliating, moisturizing/pore refining masks, glycolic treatments, restorative and protein masks for my hair.
Below are some of the products I use most often while I have two large bags of goodies I haven’t unpacked.
Some of my favorite products: Boots day cream, Shiseido cleanser, Brazilian Blowout (straightening serum = amazing), Moroccan Oil hairspray, Merle Norman AHA toner & a few randoms from Neutrogena.
I’m using and favorite Decleor eye make-up removing gel.
A miracle elixir for those battling flyways and over-processed hair in need of a pick-me up.
These samples were given to my complimentary this weekend and I find it ironic that they were now, because I have been contemplating allowing my natural curl to grow out instead of wearing it straight.
A few weeks ago I was showering at P‘s house and did not have time to blow dry my hair. So
I used some of my amazing Argan oil, brushed out my hair and put it in a side braid, secure with
a two string woven headband from Jcrew.
And yet a woman approached me and asked me “What happened to your hair!?” I looked at her (mainly wondering if she was really going to go there) and informed her I washed without a blow dry this morning.
She then proclaimed that my hair looked “rough” and that there’s a product called “coconut oil” that I could use. I really had no words at this point – as this woman (not African) was telling me how to do my own hair.
Not only was I offended but I realized, if I don’t have an hour and a half to blow dry my incredibly thick and long mane and need to wear it more natural, then I should be able to. This is what God blessed me with.
And I’ll be damned if someone is going to make me feel as though my hair isn’t pretty because of it.
Stepping off my soap box now. What is your morning routine like? The product you can’t live without?

June 18, 2012Georgina,
Thanks so much for your kind comment today and I am loving this post. My routine is also really simple….and as a 100 year old classy lady said, If you want good skin at 40, you have to start when your 20. I hope it's not too late….I think I need some new eye cream.
Madame CJ Walker lived not too far from me….you must know about her, she invented the first hair pomade….one of the first relaxer's for African Americans! I think it is so amazing that she spotted a need and made it a want!
Have a beautiful day!

June 18, 20121. I'd probably look at that lady like she was smoking crack. Okay, I'm white (duh), and I have NO. IDEA. how to do my own hair, let alone what other people with totally different hair types should do to theirs, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't rudely ask someone what happened to their hair and then proceed to tell them how to "fix" it. Some people, I swear.
2. I'm sure you'd look as beautiful with your natural hair as with your straight hair!
3. Holy cow, you have a very extensive beauty routine. lol

June 18, 2012Bahahah you know those moments where things are just SO unexpected you really can't think of a way to react. Two minutes later my mind was coming up with all types of retorts but at the moment, I wasn't feeling all that happy/snappy.
Lol at my beauty routine I know it's a bit excessive but I worked in the salon/spa/beauty industry for about 5 years so a lot of old habits have stuck. And I want to clarify, a lot of those products (especially the $80+ ones) were given to me complimentary or at a HUGE discount π
