We all wear clothes (some of us more than others when there are multiple events and workouts in a day) and there is nothing I hate more than having to run several wash/dry cycles.
It can be quite boring (as are most chores) but it doesn’t have to be. The first piece of advice is not to let it all add up – one of my biggest peeves. If you are faced with mountains of washing to do all at once, then it is a nightmare and can put you off.
Let’s not even mention the folding and putting away. Here are are a few things that you can do, to make doing laundry easier.
Get More Than One Laundry Basket.
This makes things so much faster on laundry day. If the clothes are already sorted into lights and darks, you just need to put it straight into the washing machine. It saves time which will help to make laundry a less hated job.
Wash on Cold.
This was a revelation to me and something I do almost always now! You can wash pretty much most things on a cold wash. It does the job and means different items can be washed together. It is also better for the environment, so why not give it a try?
Use the Dryer instead of an Iron.
You might have been able to fit all of your washing into the machine. It doesn’t mean that you should put it all in the dryer. One way to make sure that you have to do less ironing is to dry your clothes in two loads.
This means that the clothes have more room when they dry, meaning less chance of getting creased and wrinkled. Yes, you have to do two drying loads. But all that consists of is pressing an extra button. Way more time saved than having to iron everything.
Rethink Dry Cleaning.
If you have some items of clothing that need to be dry cleaned, have a think about your usual process. Do you have to drive quite far to take it and then return after a couple of days to pick it up? Look into a dry cleaning pick up and delivery service near you. This will save a lot of time and hassle.
Use Chalk on Stains.
If you have any clothes with oily stains, it is a great idea to use chalk on them first. The oil will resist the water in the washer; that’s just what oil does. So if you add a little chalk over the stain first, it makes it much easier to get the stain out. Saving you the hassle of having to get new clothes!
Use Lavender Essential Oil in Your Washing Cycle.
This is best to use for bed sheets and linen. Just before your sheets are finished drying, add a few drops of lavender essential oil to the load. It adds an extra fresh scent to the sheets. Lavender is great to use to help you sleep, so adding into your bed sheets will help you drift off at bedtime.
