As a Boston lifestyle blogger, I have had so many pinch-me moments that left me speechless (it is possible), shaking (in a good way) and always, just plain grateful.
The day MasterCard reached out asking if I was available to fly to Fort Meyers courtesy of JetBlue to interview David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox, I had a Reese Witherspoon moment.
Without blinking, let alone checking any of my calendars, I said yes (smart move I know.) As soon as the flight confirmation reached my inbox I realized this was actually happening.
So where was this all coming from and what did it have to do with little ole BostonGeorgina?
As it turns out, MasterCard provides one of a kind experiences to their cardholders all over the country. In launching in Boston, a group of us were invited to enjoy the first experience and spread the word. New Priceless Boston opportunities were just released including experiences with the Boston Red Sox, Boston Pops, TPC Network golf courses, Exhale Spa, Ken Oringer of Uni and more!
I did my best to craft thoughtful, unique questions keeping a bit of Boston in the mix at all times but what does one ask one of the greatest baseball players of all time?
What would David Ortiz be like in real life and how badly would I embarrass myself?
On the flight down I was so nervous my appetite was nowhere to be found (a rarity I tell you.) I reviewed my notes for the 3000th time, not wanting to have them in front of me during the interview lest I look unprepared.
I worried if the dress I had selected was right, how much my hair would frizz in the humid Florida heat. Per usual I wondered who else would be on the trip and how I would measure up to actual, accredited journalists.
We landed, hopped into a fleet of town cars and I immediately saw a friendly face, making friends with the rest of the group including the hilarious and super sweet Kendra!
After the most amazing tour of Fenway Park South and watching David shoot a few commercial reels, it was time.
I was notified that I was second in line to take the interview chair. A good thing, because I would get things over quickly, but knowing it would be my turn so soon my heart still leapt into my throat.
As I sat down I was terrified but excited (always a telling sign of growth.) Taking a deep breath I began chatting and laughing with the one and only David Ortiz.
As you can see, David Ortiz is truly one of the professional players that lives up to the hype. He is even more down to earth and goodhearted as we all believed him to be. And he can cook.
After the interview I began to breathe again, and more importantly, eat. Heading back to the hotel we decompressed and changed before heading to a beautiful dinner with shockingly fresh seafood and a fair amount of my favorite rosé.
Shortly after returning, JetBlue featured me on their Instagram and their Out of the Blue blog for what else, tips on where to eat in Boston. The entire experience only furthered my belief in taking chances, being authentic, and always remembering where you came from.
Once again, a massive thank you to the MasterCard and JetBlue teams. This was an experience I will never forget and was so fortunate to have.
What you have been up to and where you have been eating?
