There’s no denying that there are going to come times in your life where you’re under pressure. None of us are immune. The best way to face those situations is with courage and a realistic mindset.
Having a coping mechanism in place for when the going gets a bit rough is sure way to improve your life. It’ll save you from living in fear and ensure you cope with each situation that comes your way.
The stressful situations we face vary. If you’re in a high-pressure job, are a new Mom, growing your startup, a grad student, or going through financial troubles you probably face situations on a daily basis.
Whatever your situation, some high-stress situations are universal. We’re going to look at some of the major life events that cause the most:
Preparing for an Exam
Even before you go out into the working world, there’s exam stress to consider. No matter what the exam is, the stress will be the same.
You’ll spend nights lying awake, thinking about what would happen if you failed, wondering if you prepared enough, if there will be a zinger that stumps you midway through.
Approach the situation logically and take all the time you can to prepare. If you let the pressure get on top of you, you’re more likely to draw a blank when the time comes.
Focus on the knowledge you have, and believe in your ability to do well. Ensure you’re spending enough time revising.
Take as many practice test as possible so you know what to expect. And don’t forget to let your hair down every now and again, too after a job well done.
Job Interviews
Job interviews are a stress we’re all sure to face. No matter how many jobs you’ve had, an interview is still an ordeal. If you have one coming up, try to stay calm.
Do your due diligence in researching the company, it’s management team, and any recent news of product/service releases and acquisitions (even competitors) to be fully briefed.
Ensure you’re prepared by running through possible questions with friends and family. Practicing your answers will help you feel confident you can cope.
Prepare questions to ask the questions you know your interviewer will be expecting (taking a unique spin where it’s relevant to your case.)
Think too about putting together on a new outfit. The way you look has a huge influence on your potential employer’s opinion of you. Looking good will also make you feel confident.
Moving
Moving is exciting, but there’s no denying that it comes with stresses of its own. There’s a lot of waiting around to hear news.
The thing to do in that case (and any other where the result is out of your hands) is accept that there’s nothing you can do.
Accept before a sale is confirmed that nothing’s set in stone and prepare how you will react (positively) should anything go wrong.
It may be hard, but try not to get too excited before the time is right. Once you’ve secured a house, make sure you hire a moving company to help your move go smoothly.
Plan as much as possible so that you make sure everything goes well on the day. Find out as much as you can about timings and arrange your plans around them.
Accept that there’s going to be a lot of stress on the day, even after all your preparation. Get through it by focusing on the light at the end of the tunnel and best of luck!
