Although many people choose not to worry about their weight, others are driven
to maintain a much lower weight for a variety of personal reasons.
Some people want to live a healthier lifestyle to care for their bodies while others focus is more on wishing to change their image. Whatever your reason for wanting to lose weight,
everyone is well aware that in practice it is always harder than it sounds.
The fundamental principle of weight loss is to burn more calories than you consume,
but even with tracking both (which I try to at times) it’s tough!
There are different ways to approach weight loss, and some will be more efficient
than others. Consider these different options to help you reach your goal.
Weight Loss Exercise Programs
Changing your diet works best (especially if you want more prominent, long lasting effects)
if you also increase the amount of physical activity you do.
There are a plethora of workout programs to help you whittle down a bit faster.
The success you have with them will depend on what you use, your ultimate dedication
and the other lifestyle choices you make.
You might find that a new exercise DVD does help you lose weight,
but once you stop and go back to your old ways, you put it back on.
Permanent Lifestyle Changes
If you are aiming for more permanent weight loss, you need to begin by
thinking long-term and selecting changes that correlate accordingly.
Instead of letting your weight yo-yo up and down, instead we should focus on
altering our eating and exercising habits once and for all.
Most importantly, you need to change the way you think about your diet
and working out as it can be easy to fall back into bad habits.
If you want to make permanent lifestyle changes, it takes a lot of dedication.
Surrounding yourself with a support network can also help!
Short-term Dieting
A lot of people and especially women choose short-term diets to help them lose weight.
It’s understandable, of course. Who wants to make permanent changes when you can spend a few weeks eating differently before you get to go back to normal?
People often use dieting when they have a short-term weight loss goal,
such as losing a few pounds for summer or fitting into their wedding dress.
There are all kinds of diets to follow, some of which work and some of which don’t.
You may choose to go on a diet if you want to lose some weight quickly,
but I do not advocate this method nor feel it is best for long-term results.
Surgery
In very extreme circumstances, surgery might be an option you and your doctor consult on.
Resources such as the New York Bariatric Group, do a wonderful job of explaining
(within the very preliminary stages of consideration) the different options for you.
Every type of weight loss surgery has positive aspects and drawbacks,
therefore requiring exceptional and lengthy consideration.
One thing to keep in mind; losing weight is not something you can rush.
Even when you shed a few pounds right away, it can slow down after a while and become
more difficult. Choose the best weight loss option for you to get the results you want.
As always, practicing self-acceptance is most important as we all have
varying natural weights (and are beautiful no matter what size!)
