There were lots of “leaf peepers” visiting to view the already vivid display
of foliage (I never take it for granted and am always in awe of its natural beauty.)
Meals were enjoyed slowly and in fantastic company.
My first evening, at the Horse & Hound Inn.
I began with the Frisรฉe salad, complete with bacon lardoons,
the most deliciously ripe heirloom tomato wedges, a warm dressing,
homemade croutons all topped with a poached egg. Bliss? Yes.
Also for a starter we ordered Pรขte for the table which was served with its
traditional accoutrements. It was also equally tasty.
For my entree I selected the Chicken Divan.
Hormone-free chicken breast stuffed with brocolli, roasted red pepper
and Swiss cheese. It was a bit dry but delicious nonetheless.
I almost never finish my entree but always secretly wish to order dessert.
Lucky for me, my dining companions decided we would order three
and each have an equal taste.
What did we sample you ask?
The Pumpkin Bread Pudding (with caramel sauce
and fresh whipped cream)
Apple Galette: a puff pastry with sauteed apples, cranberries,
nutmeg, cinnamon and butter (also with fresh w.c.)
Deep Chocolate Cake: need I explain?
After sleeping in the next day we headed to brunch at an organic
little restaurant down the road for a fresh scramble.
Eggs, pesto, tomato, mushroom and spinach.
Paired with a cup of strong organic coffee and the Style section of the
Sunday New York Times, I was again – in heaven.
Lastly, I clearly had the opportunity to practice a bit of photography
which rounded out a near perfect weekend.
I know it is Thursday and the weekend has long since past,
but what was yours like and most importantly,
did you eat anything particularly delicious?
