It’s no secret that we all wish we could stay looking like we’re 21 forever, but sadly at one point or another, our skin will start to age (seemingly overnight.) As a Boston lifestyle blogger, I get to glean tips from the top beauty professionals in the city, while sampling the most effective products and treatments.
Many of us don’t realize it but the aging process actually starts at an incredibly young age and from our mid-twenties onwards our skin is aging. A bit of a startling prospect.
While we can’t avoid aging, what we can do is take the right steps to keep the wrinkles at bay for as long as possible.
To help you do prevent and treat those pesky signs of aging like crow’s feet, dull complexion, age spots and sagging skin below are few of the best ways dermatologists suggest keeping the wrinkles at bay.
Start from the inside out
At 25 I began incorporating supplements like omega 3 & 6 and vitamin E into my regimen in the evenings (when the body is at rest and I’d assume better equipped to absorb and utilize the minerals.)
My green smoothies and predominantly raw diet help provide all of the Vitamin K and C vitamins my skin craves while massive amounts of water help flush out toxins and keep my skin hydrated.
Make topical creams and lotions your best friend
Emollients (aka face creams) will not only plump skin and fill fine lines, but will also do powerful things by way of preventing aging.
Even those cheap tubes of face cream that you get free in hotels, do something (I do not recommend relying on them however.) That being said, it’s best to invest in a good quality anti-aging moisturizer that suits your particular skin type should it be oily, dry, sensitive or combination.
Most dermatologists suggest using a cream that increases cell growth and eliminates free radicals. For this, retinol creams are ideal, as they do all this and more.
The wonderful thing about retinol creams is that they can be purchased over the counter without a prescription. However for the stronger stuff you will need to see your dermatologist.
Once I turned 20 I vowed I would maintain the skin I was in as best as I could, using sunscreen (SPF 50) pretty religiously.)
Be careful of how you sleep
You’ve probably never thought about this but years of sleeping on one side of your face on an abrasive fabric is bound to take its toll. Ask your derm which side of your face you sleep on, and the chances are, they will be able to tell you.
That’s because the side of your face you sleep on will be more prone to aging as the creases from your pillow can damage the skin. To find out more about this, check out http://www.juverest.com/info/Avoiding_Sleep_Wrinkles.
Think about swapping to a silk pillowcase as the material is less prone to wrinkling, and is far less harsh on skin.
Try a peel or two
For reducing the signs of aging, chemical peels are one of the quickest and easiest treatments.
Though consulting your “skin doctor” is always recommended first, peels are also now available in at home kits. FTo learn more about the acid peel options available check out http://www.platinumskincare.com/glycolic-peels-30-50-70/.
While acidic peels should not be your sole quick fix, after a month or so of having them consistently, you should start to see results.
The most important thing that you can do after using an acid peel is moisturize and protect your face. As part of the peeling process, your skin may burn and flake, both of these effects are normal. However, they can be a little unpleasant, which is why soothing your skin with face cream is recommended.
Be sure to also do a patch test on a less visible part of your face, as I once did a peel that contained a particular flower extract and I broke out horrible.

April 7, 2016I’m 33 and I think I look pretty good. The one problem I have is the grays are becoming out of control. I had my first in my mid-20’s and it’s gotten out of control by 30. LOL. I do appreciate these beauty tips, because before you know it 40 will be here and I want to look my best! 🙂
