Decorating the home is a great way to give it a new look. Whether you’ve got more of a shoestring budget or you’re really planning on splurging, there are lots of things you can do to make it look amazing. Below are a few of my favorite tips to keep in mind when considering your next project:
Change Your Accessories
Changing your accessories is one of the easiest ways to change the look of your home, and it’s nice while also more economical (plus the lazy non-DIYer in me loves that this means you won’t need to do any manual labor.)
After packing up your old accessories, take a look at the larger pieces you have (bed, sofa, lamps and whatnot) when planning the new splashes of color, prints or art before diving in and displaying your new ones.
You can swap them out as you please then to create different looks (I like to do this at least 3 times a year, sometimes more which is not so economical.) It is also even easier to change things up if you have a neutral colored decor in your home. You can then incorporate color with your accessories.
Create an Accent Wall
Feature walls are great for making a room stand out. Just make sure you don’t try to create a feature wall in every single room you have. You should have a maximum of 2 feature walls, or it can get a bit much.
You can make your accent wall with a pail of brightly colored paint, a wallpaper, or by painting your own mural. You can even use accessories and artwork. It’s however you want to create it!
Get the Pros Involved
If you’re not confident doing something alone, then get the pros in to do it for you. This will save you time, effort, and stress. It’ll cost a little more, but it’ll be worth it when your newly decorated home is finished.
You can find residential painters no matter where you live, but make sure you choose a reputable company you trust to help you via recommendations from your friends or family.
Change Your Furniture Arrangement
Another really simple and inexpensive way to change the look of your home is to simply change your furniture arrangement! I think furniture looks best when it’s pulled away from the wall in a more social way.
This can also give a room the look of more space. You can find more layout tips online, and even incorporate feng shui if that appeals to you.
Incorporate Your Art
Artwork is beautiful, and having it in the home can really enhance a room. Choose a piece that fascinates you and display it with pride somewhere prominent!
Include Natural Elements
Include natural elements in your home decorating to make your home feel lively and fresh. A nice potted plant or some flowers will add life and color to the place.
Mix and Match Your Furniture
Don’t feel like you have to match your furniture all the time. Mixing up the look of your furniture is a great way to make your home look fun and unique!
Invest in Statement Pieces
Don’t be afraid to invest in statement pieces. Buying lots of smaller pieces to display is common, but one large piece can really make an impact. If you really love a large decoration, make the investment.
