Sometimes you just have to get away and sometimes you just don’t want to spend your vacation sightseeing or being busy with an overpacked schedule.
Instead, you want to take things at a slower pace. You want to go on some some leisurely walks, potentially even switching off all your electronics and gadgets.
If you’re looking for somewhere to get away, there are many international locales you could choose. Of all the states in the US, Wyoming has to be one of the best choices if you’re looking for a retreat.
It offers stunning scenery, quiet places to hide away, and plenty of friendly people too. If you’re not convinced, here’s why it’s the perfect place for a relaxing retreat.
Hide Away in the Middle of Nowhere
This may seem a bit crazy, but at this very point in history the year, I want to run away, hide under the covers, and only emerge when I feel the coast is a tad bit clearer.
If you’re looking for a retreat, you don’t want to be somewhere that’s densely populated.
The state has a lot of open wilderness, which makes it ideal for seeking a secluded getaway. You can hide away somewhere private, while still having access to the things you need.
Nestling into some mountains around Jackson or another town, or you could head off into the wilderness should you feel so inclined.
Access to Incredible National Parks
One of the things Wyoming is most famous for is Yellowstone National Park.
The majority of the park is in Wyoming, although it also stretches into Idaho and Montana. The stunning expanse is a popular tourist destination, meaning that it can get quite busy.
However, it isn’t always teeming with tourists, and you can find places that are quieter even when it is. It’s a vast park so you can find somewhere to enjoy some solitude among the canyons, rivers, and forests.
In addition to Yellowstone, Wyoming also boasts Grand Teton National Park. There are a number of national monuments in addition to Big Horn Canyon National Recreation Area.
Great in Summer or Winter
Wyoming is an excellent place to visit in any weather. Although the national parks receive a lot of visitors in the summer, there are excellent reasons to go during the winter.
If you’re headed there during the winter there are some incredible places to ski. It’s a great way to get away if you want to leave your life behind and experience some adrenaline with a number of other cool weather sports.
Jackson Hole is the best-rated resort for skiing and snowboarding in the country. While Summer offers some relaxing experiences; soaking in a hot spring sounds like heaven to any lady living in New England.
For others, it could be spending some time birdwatching or practicing your photography in one of the most scenic areas of the country.
Luxurious Resorts, Hotels and Secluded Accommodation
If you want to stay somewhere quiet, don’t imagine that you have to be in a plain cabin (though those hold a great deal of appeal to many, and me.)
Wyoming offers many types of accommodation to make your trip just as you imagined. If you prefer a hotel, you can find luxurious hotels in Jackson Hole WY, in the state capital of Cheyenne, or in Thermopolis where you’ll also find the Hot Springs State Park.
If you want something more private, you can pick a secluded cabin that you can have all for yourself. Many people like to choose a resort for their relaxing retreat, so they have access to amenities.
You can stay in Jackson Hole retreat into the spa, enjoy fitness classes, and much more. Of course, if you want something more relaxed, that’s available too. You can choose to stay in a rustic cabin or even on a ranch.
Take in the Wildlife
Wildlife fans won’t be bored on a visit to Wyoming. There’s plenty to see both in and out of the national parks. Whether you like large wildlife such as bears or smaller things like birds, your options are plentiful.
If you’re looking for large mammals, you’ll find moose, deer, and elk. Anyone who wants to visit Wyoming for the wildlife can create a quiet and secluded vacation, whether you choose to stay in a resort or in a tiny cabin.
Head out exploring on your own or look for a tour company to help you find the best places to go.
Indulge in Luxury
For some people the best way to relax is in an indulgent space. Having a massage or other beauty treatments, as well as perhaps participating in guided meditation (aka a vacation for the brain.)
Wyoming has some of the top luxury spas that are waiting for visitors to enjoy.
Whether you’re looking for a large resort or a small independent spa, you can find somewhere that suits you. Many of them are in peaceful and sleepy locations, so you don’t have to worry about it being too busy.
History and Culture
Wyoming isn’t just a rural idyll, with no urban areas. You can find plenty of culture and history in the state if you’re hoping to create experiences beyond the natural beauty and wildlife.
The Heart Mountain Interpretive Center outside of Cody is the perfect example. This thought-provoking museum will teach you about the history of the internment camp of Second World War.
If you want to explore further back, you can find places to learn about the Wild West all over the state.
Look Up and Beyond Your Present
In many places, light pollution makes it difficult to get a proper view of the night sky. But in Wyoming there is no end of places to go for a clear view.
Whether you choose to stay in a secluded cabin or go camping, you can sit back and gaze at more stars than you have ever seen before.
Try going out with Wyoming Stargazing, a nonprofit that offers educational tours.
If you’re hoping for a relaxing retreat, Wyoming is worth serious consideration within your list of destinations. There’s so much to do, no matter how you like to spend your time.
