With a new season often comes a need for change. Why not inject a new theme into your home with an exciting interior design project? Below are two completely different themes to give you some fresh inspiration.
A tropical, jungle theme will give an injection of color into your home. While the steampunk theme leans towards utility-chic and is perfect if you love a more raw, industrial style.
Tropical
Add a bit of nature into your home for a tropical slice of paradise. Think lush greens, juicy oranges, flower and bird motifs. Be on the lookout for color swatches of fabric in shimmering blues and greens to channel turquoise seas and sunny skies.
Swatches can be used as inspiration for artwork, upholstery and pillows and cushions. Designers Guild has some great tropical options.
Choose a feature wall in the living room and bedroom and wallpaper with a tropical theme.
Paint the other walls in a neutral color
So as not to overwhelm. Bring some of the exotic outside into your home with plants including ferns and palms. Think verdant greens and vivid colors. Source furniture in burnished wood for a touch of jungle flavor.
Perhaps choose a set of dining room chairs or a coffee table in wood textures. You can also find side tables made from wood stumps of trees to keep in with the nature theme.
Scour flea markets for vintage objects with an antique travelling theme. These could be old fashioned bird cages, fossils or interesting artifacts. Combine different textures in the bedroom and living room to add dimension. Add leopard print throws and sheepskin rugs for a cozy feel.
Also look out for salvage wood turned into furniture. In the bathroom add pebbles and lush plants to create a feeling of Eden inside your home. Also think about extending the theme into your home garden too. Your jungle palette should be bright, fresh and luxuriously exotic. It’s time to unleash your wild side.
Steampunk
Steampunk style takes elements of the Victorian period and Industrial Revolution. It’s all about the inner workings of machinery and invention. Opt for subdued colors in reds, plums and greas. If you can, expose concrete and brick walls. Add a steampunk table lamp for a cool industrial feel.
Choose light bulbs by Edison for a more authentic look. Use reclaimed furniture from the past to create a hint of nostalgia. Look out for refurbished lead piping, whimsical gear clocks and older materials to use in modern ways.
Bring in some stylish leather furniture. Your aim is to create something edgy and moody with a nod to the Victorian period of innovative design. Warning: hunting through vintage shops will become your new hobby. For your home you want to celebrate the use of raw material but also make them feel cozy and luxe.
Use copper and brass to achieve an industrial feel, but create warmth and color with incandescent lighting. For true steampunk style, you should embrace the history of that period. For an industrial-glam look choose engineered reclaimed wood flooring and Victorian style fittings in the bathroom.
Use warm metals such as bronze on the base of coffee tables and dining tables and combine both rough and smooth textures for chic variation.
There are so many ways you can inject personality into your home. So prepare to be inspired and start thinking outside the box.
What new trends are you inspiring in updating your decor?
