Wants for Winter – OTK is Key

As the numbers on the thermometer continue to dip, we find ourselves doing more than just the beloved act of layering, but exchanging our wardrobes altogether. Though we may have a few of our tried and true winter staples tucked away in storage, every fashionista needs to add key pieces to update her look.

I had a fair amount of my “Winter Wants” picked out by the end of September, most inspired from Topshop, Neimans and Shopbop.

The most important and functional piece on your list should be at least one pair of OTK’s. Over-The-Knee boots are making an even larger comeback this year. We all know who has been rocking them all fall, we’ve seen the perforated ones on countless celebs, but its time to graduate to a much warmer version for those of us living in an area with actual seasons.

Next on my list as far as accessories and detail:

• Cable knit galore, cute and toasty

• Bomber hats are so popular and look especially adorable if you have the right hair cut

• A little Fair Isle goes a long way

• Beanies in every color and style: last year I used a black, slouchy, cable knit beanie as one of my everyday staples and got endless compliments on it. It was one of the least expensive items in my accessory drawer!

• Equestrian leggings: I love anything that has equestrian detailing, Frye boots, fitted blazers emblazoned with a pony or made up emblem, crisp oxfords. Then again, I’m from New England, home of prep-couture.

• Vince sweaters. No one does slouchy, fitted, comfy casual sweaters like Vince. I would buy thirty in a variety of colors and styles and wear them almost every day if I could get away with it.

• Cuffed booties. I can’t get enough. Loeffler Randall does it well in gray.

• One Last Tip: Not saying the neat thin belted look is over, however lately we’ve been spotting a more casual trend. Instead, tuck the leftover as seen on Vince & Shopbop models.
