When I was in high school..
(Forgive me for these tiny photos, they’re from my old webshots account. Yes. Webshots.)
I wore glasses everyday but not by choice (at least until senior year.)
I could barely tame my hair, nor had I found a great stylist with whom I could
establish that crucial client/artist relationship.
I felt I did not fit in with my mainly Caucasian classmates/neighbors.
Yet I had a secret crush on an incredibly intelligent Jewish boy..
My sense of style was mediocre at best, far too often I played it safe
for fear of looking weird or being seen as more different than I already was.
When prom rolled around I went over my allotted budget only because it
was about the 11th dress I had tried on and my mother was tiring fast.
I loved that dress.
Reading was my escape and sports somewhat my social saving grace.
I always left my computer on in case someone wanted to IM
my thoughtfully crafted (loser) AOL Instant Messenger away message.
Then I got a T-Mobile Sidekick. Wow I was cool.
Life changed so dramatically when I left for a more diverse environment
filled with people of varying economic backgrounds.
What was your high school persona like?
Dress? Mannerisms? Important moments?

September 12, 2012Your prom dress was so pretty! Back in my day we rode around in covered wagons (kidding of course). My school was not very diverse either. I really did not learn much of any different cultures until I started working in Boston. I loved working in Boston.
