I am now a little over six months from my wedding (it just seemed like I had 8 a minute ago!?) Soon after getting engaged I knew I needed to start early to get the results I wanted without overdoing it too quickly and to ward off extra stressors.
Here is a breakdown of how I’m doing it, with what, and how often:
I Evaluated my Eating Habits
Dan and I began incorporating morning smoothies into our morning routine at least a few times a week. These smoothies include flax, avocado, fresh lemon juice, chia, coconut oil, kale, probiotics, antioxidant-rich berries and a vegan base like almond milk and/or organic carrot juice.
We also try to drink more water and ingest less sugar. In the next few months, I’ll also look to curb alcohol and salt a bit.
I Got Serious About Supplements
When a coworker began speaking highly about the personalized vitamins she had been taking, I looked into them.
Based on a personalized assessment, Care/of recommends a number of vitamins to address both your health and beauty needs.
Below are the supplements I take but know you can always customize from your recommendation (taking out the things you already have on hand):
- Astaxanthin: antioxidant for brain, heart and skin health
- B-Complex
- Collagen (I take NeoCell which you can find at Whole Foods)
- Omega 3 & 6’s
- Probiotics (1 – 2x weekly) I like GoLive
- Vitamin C
We Made Small Changes Around at Home
We began making sure we set the humidifier each night to keep us hydrated (it makes a difference with consistent use!)
I also began using a satin pillowcase which is said to be gentler on your skin at night.
I Invested in Products Specifically for My Skin Concerns
I knew if I wanted my dream skin, it would require an investment. So I am working with an esthetician to come up with both a routine and product cycle for each season in order to reach my #skingoals.
Below are some of the essentials I focused on immediately:
- Personalized Kiehl’s Apothecary Preparations serum
- Day cream
- Vitamin C
- Night cream
- Eye masks
- Sun protection
- Face masks: deep cleaning, moisturizing, brightening, calming
- Exfoliant
Setup Beauty Maintenance Schedule
While I can only do so much at home, working with professionals was another investment to guide me on the best path.
Here are the steps I am taking:
- Monthly (or bi-monthly) facials leading up to the big day
- Hair treatments to strengthen and grow out my hair
- Heat treating less
- Body scrub 1x / month w/deep moisturizing at night (I love to slather on Organic Bath Company’s Drenched body butter)
Worked on Stress Management
I have no qualms about admitting I speak to a therapist. I love the stress my personal and professional life demands of me, but it has always seemed wise to have someone to help sort out recurrent stressors in your life. To call you out on the things you may be missing.
Having these sessions along with regular workouts and being cognizant of the amount of sleep I get each night has helped my mental health immensely.
Here’s to making positive changes for a positive big day!
How are you prepping for a significant upcoming event (or your wedding?)
Lauren
April 4, 2018Do you have any tips on preventing and treating acne/pimples? I’m getting married in a month and trying to keep my skin as clear as possible. Thanks!
Georgina
April 8, 2018Hi Lauren,
My best advice would be to meet with a skin professional! As I am not certified in that area, I do not want to recommend/prescribe anything I am not qualified to. An aesthetician can take your skin where you want/need – let me know if you need any suggestions re: a facility/professional and wishing you all the best in the month to come! xo
