Since making friends with one of Boston’s new more exploratory food bloggers,
I have been brunching my way through a number of neighborhoods.
As Puritan & Co just topped Boston Magazine’s list of Best Brunches in Boston,
it seemed a logical choice for our next meal.
Nestled centrally on Cambridge’s Cambridge Street, its main focus in American fare with emphasis
on New England centric dishes though occasionally incorporating other ethnic ingredients.
Beautifully yet simply decorated, I must admit my expectations were quite high.
We began with a basket of pastries and Sunday Sippers;
The Tequila Sunrise (upper right hand) and the Church (gin, aperol and lemon.)
We created our own basket of the Bacon & Gruyere Pinwheels, Banana Bread,
Dolce de Leche & Coconut Danish and of course a Lemon & Lime Cronut.
They arrived quite quickly as it seems they are made in the morning (of course)
and popped into serving baskets without warming which left me a bit crestfallen.
For my main I had the Duck & Green Onion Hash; your basic farm eggs with herbed-crème fraîche
while Chelsea enjoyed the Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich (pictured on the right.)
The dish was good. It was a bit lacking in flavor and I was somewhat let down
but not so much so that I would not return to give it a second try.
Boston Magazine’s Best Brunch of 2014?
I must say I have experienced better in Boston but the atmosphere was beautiful.
Farm to table, whimsical light fixtures and an endless supply of natural light.
Have you ever been slightly disappointed by
a restaurant that received rave reviews?

September 23, 2014It does look like such a beautiful atmosphere! Disapointing that it did not meet expectations as the dish sounds delish. I have been let down recently on a restaurant…. such a build up.. it was good but not something I would go back for?

September 23, 2014That brunch spot looks lovely! That’s a bummer that the meal did not match up to the atmosphere. I have definitely eaten at “award winning” restaurants and left being like, “who decided this was the winner??” Sometimes I feel like the voting is rigged as well. But it’s always good to try new things and you just move on to the next place 🙂

September 24, 2014Haha Lianna I can totally picture your face while you're thinking that too 🙂
