I have always maintained that the best way to get into shape and more importantly
stay in shape is by making small things new habits.
Being healthy and fit is not about a constantly fluctuating series of diets,
it is a lifestyle (that is, if you want the best and most long lasting results.)
Below are some of the best tips I ever received on staying fit
and a few extra of my own!
1. Make exercise part of your daily routine… plain and simple. If you find that
you do not have time to workout in the morning or after 5, try to fit it in elsewhere.
I usually walk or bike the short trip to and from the office each day.
It ensures that I get in at least a mile and I can only add on from there.
This should be common sense to anyone wishing to tone up or lose weight but
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard shock in someones voice when I tell
them I bike to work. It’s under a mile..?
2. Resist the cardinals… if you can manage to stay away from or limit: sugar,
white starches, lots of dairy and soda, you’re way ahead of the game.
These dietary cardinal sins make you feel sluggish and are not easily digested by
the body. Cutting down will show almost instant results.
3. Remember this saying… if it can go bad, then it’s good for you. If it can’t go
bad, then the preservatives preventing it from doing so are bad for you.
Fresh fruits and vegetables require a bit more time to prepare and pack in the
morning then say, a bag of potato chips. However, the preservatives
loaded into each bite are horrendous for your body and laden with salt.
4. Drink water and… drink lemon water. Popping a few slices into the first glass of
water you drink of the day makes a significant difference in the long haul.
Not only does lemon help detox your body, provide antioxidants and vitamins,
it also aids in digestion and stimulates the liver!
5. If you work in an office… be sure to get out of your chair at least every twenty
minutes. Use your headset so you can walk around while still being productive
(my personal favorite) or take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Making sure you keep your water bottle full will also guarantee you have a need to
get up at least once an hour. Go a step further with these exercises you can do
at your desk by AHA Life: Upgrade Your Life!
What are some daily steps you take to stay toned?

August 15, 2012I love these tips. I don't have a daily step yet but I figure I'd start biking at least once a week and maybe increase as time goes on. Speaking of potato chips,I have a fresh new bag in my office. I think I might put that in the staff lounge for everyone, so I won't eat it all. Thanks for sharing! Have a good week! π Xo-Jewel

August 15, 2012I make it a point to get up at least once an hour, and twice if I can.
Working in an office is definitely not my favorite.

August 15, 2012It can make it a bit tough to get the workouts in (or not find yourself sedentary for long periods of time.)

August 15, 2012I am pretty bad at working out but I try to eat really healthy during the week. Clean eating is so essential, it is actually more important than exercising (for weight control purposes only).

August 15, 2012Your tips are helpful Georgina. I'm a runner, so I run everyday, but I still have my bad habit of white bread (arrgh).I drink lemon water sometimes;didn't know the significance. Now I am going to drink it more often.Thanks.

August 15, 2012This time of year it's so much easier to eat fresh fruits and veggies with all of the lovely produce at the farmer's markets. I stopped buying all the tempting snacks (crackers, pretzels) and just keep fresh veggies and nuts on hand when I need a snack. Great tips.

August 18, 2012Agreed – Massachusetts has some fantastic farmer's markets. Thank you for stopping by Lissy!
